Just bought a new laptop, ive gone through the process of getting rid of some of the programs that come installed on it and turning off some of the programs that startup when i log in. I also installed microsoft security essentials.

Is there anything else people would recommend I do to protect and keep my laptop healthy for as long as possible??

Edit. Its a Toshiba Satellite c660

    Don't do this.

Microsoft security essentials is far better imo, and it's free.

I don't think there's much more to do to be honest. Best of luck with it!

I got a years free mcafee internet security with it but im not gonna install it because theres way too many popups and addons, things like that with mcafee and norton. Ive used microsoft security essentials before and find it way better.

Ive only had it a few hours and havent had any problems yet anyway! but im coming from a broken down dell that overheats after 10 minutes use...so anything is an improvement for me :D

aye stay well away from "free for a year" or any paid for av, pure bloatware, and cpu hogs, ms essentials and some common sense, and you'll be fine, and as some one said its a good idea to run a spyware maybe once every month or so, malwarebytes would be my choice, do not, do not run ms essentials along side macafee or any other av ! one will do, ms essentials is grand
