    Ruthless People.

    Kiss the Girls.

Cellular (I quite liked this, very popcorny though).

    Man on Fire.

    Red Eye.

    Firewall (crap!).

Yeah Taken is pretty good for a popcorn film, though you end up wanting Liam Neeson to kill every single cast member.

Haven't seen it in years, but I do remember it being pretty gripping, though, as it is based on a stage play, it feels like one.

    Let off some Steam Bennett!

There's also The Cell which is a brilliant watch from Tarsem Singh. (Yes Jennifer Lopez is in it but it's still class, trust me :)

I'd recommend watching The Fall first. The Cell is absolutely brilliant in parts, but the bad bits are so bad they almost ruin the film. The plot is enormously derivative of other films, especially Manhunter. And Lopez is dreadful. There's a few scenes where she walks around in her underwear for no other reason than to distract from her acting.

The Fall is an absolute masterpiece alright, it has a place in my theoretical top 20 favourite movies I've ever seen. Then again it's not really a movie about kidnapping :) Seriously though, right from that first scene with Beethoven's 7th you know you're in for something amazingly ambitious. That little girl's performance is not far short of virtuoso and "that" transition is something that stays with you.

I still have a soft spot for The Cell despite the presence of Lopez whom, if I'm honest, thought was passable enough for what the role entailed as a kind of modern day Alice in a messed up Wonderland. I'm probably carryign some residual bias from my first viewing when it came out when I remember being blown away by it's visual strengths and the twisted nature of the antagonist's mind, watched it a couple of months back and still very much enjoyed it.

Yeah, it's a while since I watched it, but The Cell is definitely one of the most visually impressive films of recent years.

Actually I just thought of a brilliant kidnapping film: Kurosawa's High and Low. Think Ransom only much better. It's probably one of the best crime films ever made.

The Vanishing, only not the crappy remake, the original.

Maybe I should watch it again but I thought The Fall was visually astounding but extremely pretentious, complete style over substance. I remember thinking the little girl was awful in it too. I dunno :(

Does From Dusk Til Dawn count as a kidnap movie??

What a specific type of movie to want to watch? Is this a ...research movie?
I guess recommendation will depend on which side you wanna see it from? Kidnappers or people left behind?

Fargo is a brilliant movie. I like Ransom. Gibson in his better years.
