Trying to personalise our wedding ceremony. I'm irish and OH is english but has korean family. Would like 3 poems in ceremony, one in english, one in korean and one in irish. English stuff obviously is easy to find, and i'll ask the koreans to source korean poem but its the irish i'm having trouble with!! Searches online haven't thrown up much of anything. Nothing on Eason website either. It'll be civil ceremony so cant mention God. Anyone any advice or anyone have any suitable poems as gaeilge they could share? Looks like i'll just have to search every bookshopp in Dublin!

Hi fuddy1, maybe Suantraí Ghráinne by Máire Mhac an tSaoi?
It means "Gráinne's lullaby" and it's based on the mythical Diarmuid & Gráinne. Gráinne adresses Diarmuid and lullabies him to sleep. It'd be easier than any other poems I can think of to pronounce. Obviously, the translation isn't poetic and doesn't capture the full meaning of the original. Here's one verse. If you want something longer I can send more. Where the phonetics sound like English words I've given them; cuddle, lake, favour are to be spoken as you would in English.

Codail, a laoich dar thugas grá, cuddle, a lake, dor hugis graw
Codail go sámh im bhánbhaclainn, cuddle go sawv im vawnvoclin
Tusa mo rogha thar thogha fear Fáil, Tusa mo row-a har how-a far fall
Thar rí na bhFian is a chóir fairis_ har ree na veen is a kor farish
Codail, codail, a chúl na lúb, cuddle, cuddle, a cool na loob
le faobhar na hoíche, codail, a rún. le favour na ee-a, cuddle, a roon

    Sleep hero that I love,
Sleep soundly in my white (baclainn is the inside of your elbow; your bent arm)
You are my choice over the choice of any man of Ireland :D
Over the king of the warriors and his possessions as well
Sleep, sleep, (cúl na lúb is a term of affection; but confuses me; back of the knot?)
At nightfall (edge of the night literally), sleep, dear.

    Congratulations and best of luck!
