Repeating first arts, some subject troubles...

Hey guys, I'm repeating first arts come September and just have a few questions regarding subjects and subject choices.

SPANISH- I failed one of the modules in this subject so if I'm right that's the only one I have to repeat? Like I can carry on the 10 credits I got from the other two modules? This is definitely a subject I would like to keep until degree level.

Soc. and Pol.-Same as above minus wanting to keep it into second year and beyond.

French-I got zero credits in this one and didn't pass one module, but that's because I failed the first module after not studying and after deciding my best option would be repeating I decided that I wouldn't even attend the exams in this subject so I could drop it in my repeat year and just pick a new subject. I despised everything about French in university which is unfortunate because I actually like French and am good at speaking it. It was also my favorite subject in school.

Legal Studies-I got 37% in this subject in total because I didn't attend much and didn't study, something I regret immensely I'm sure you can imagine. So anyways, Legal Studies has number limits and thus, I'm not sure if you can repeat this subject in a first year repeat year, and thus not be able to carry it on to second year.

Now this is where I'm at. The main hope would be to keep Spanish and Legal Studies into second year, but as I have already mentioned I don't think I'll be able to keep Legal Studies or even do it in my repeat year. So as I may have to pick a new subject in place of legal studies and I am sure that I'm replacing French, I potentially have to pick two new subjects.

One of these new subjects must be something I will take into second year with Spanish because I wouldn't like to keep Soc. and Pol.

So these are the subjects I would consider doing and am hoping that anyone can offer me advice on them and tell me some more about them and offer their opinion on which of these subjects would be good to take to degree level with Spanish.

    GROUP 1-Archaeology
    GROUP 2-Celtic Civilization
    GROUP 3-Classics, German
    GROUP 7-Italian, Philosophy

Any advice and/or help is greatly, greatly appreciated :)

    Thanks all :)

I did archaeology in 1st year mainly as the times it was on suited my job hours.

It's a mixed bag of a course. I found the stone age part of the course to be extremely boring although others found it be very interesting. YOu also do celts, vikings and Normans which is fairly interesting.

i also did archaeology and really liked it! you can pass the year no bother and the lecturers are incredibly helpful.
i wouldnt recommend taking on two languages though! there would be so much work involved and it could get really confusing at times when studying for grammer rules etc.
if you have any questions about archaeology pm me and i'll answer in more detail :)

I've just finished second year doing French and Spanish. If you don't mind me asking, what parts of French did you hate so much? Because if it was the literature and culture modules, I would recommend that you stay away from Italian and German as well as I have heard that their courses follow pretty much the same structure as the French one. Also just as a heads up, in second year for Spanish you'll be expected to read two novels, two short story collections and possibly two plays depending on which option module you select. The exams/essays for these though are in English, so once you make any attempt with the text at all you'll pass them.

I have friends doing Archaeology and Classics. Archaeology seems to be a mixed bag; some topics are really interesting, some are fairly boring. Classics is meant to be great especially if you are any way interested in history, but there are a lot of essays involved. I've heard Philosophy is an easy subject to pass in first year, but I don't know what it'd be like to carry on all the way up.

I did archaeology, I found it painfully boring, but relatively easy to pass, and as someone has already said, the lecturers are really helpful! As far as I know you can't do two subjects that require a certain % (aside from the usual 40% like psychology or legal studies require you to be in the top whatever to keep going) in order to carry on to 2nd year.
