i feel nervos about a waiting on did i get a place in WIT.

Im 21 and its always been an ambition to get to third level education.

When i done my leaving cert in 2007 i was 17 and my maths teacher siad i should do foundation maths that i would be grand for the future regarding college admission and all that. I didnt get into college even though i had enogh points. So i done a fetac level 5 media course and passed that and i took 2 years out.

I went back to do a fetac course in september 2010 and done very well in that getting 4 distinctions and 2 merits completing that course in may of this year.

I applyed for Wit this year and am very nervos in finding out am i Still that stupied that i didnt get into college even though i have been trying hard in all the courses i was doing.

I want to go to college because i belive its good for people, make new friends, join clubs/societies and it looks good on the cv.

The foundation maths thing is a bolexe and someone in the government should look into it. THere are intellegent people like myself out there that are crap at maths but good in other education areas.

What course did you go for OP? Know plenty of lads who came to WIT with me who hadn't the slightest clue about maths and are still going strong.

    You'll be grand!

What course did you apply for? I did a degree in Business Studies and I can tell you that if you work at it it's not that bad a subject granted I was fairly strong at ordinary level maths in the LC.

If you do get in (and I hope you do) I'll say that the best thing for you would be to organise extra grinds in it right from the start. IIRC the college will help you find someone but it shouldn't be too hard. It will make a world of difference having 1 to 1 time with someone.

    Good luck.

Ah the closest you'll get to matsh in that is Financial Accounting. Its just two big words for Maths. Get some practice in with some grinds and youll be fine.

I did foundation maths for my leaving in 1994 - I've been working in an accounts office for over 10 years now. Once you grasp the basic debits and credits you'll be fine But if you struggle with this get grinds so you can keep up but you will get it eventually. You're never going to have to do full accounts so you'll be fine

WIT have a maths centre where you can go for free help at certain times throughout the day. Its a little portakabin type thing out by the walton building and you wouldn't look out of place going there for help if you needed it.

I think it would stand to you to improve your writing skills - I have often found it to be the case that even if your other skills are up to date, you will be discounted by virtue of spelling and grammar mistakes.
