    Hi guys,

Am signed up for this years Dublin Marathon, and am looking for a good half marathon to do in order to stretch the legs beforehand as part of my training.

Has anyone got any recommendations for decent ones (in Ireland) from about mid to end-Sept?

    All advice much appreciated!

The Phoenix Park-based Dublin half marathon(part of the race series) and the national half marathon in Waterford both spring to mind. Both are in September.

I saw a sign yesterday in Duncormick Co Wexford , for a road race with €1,000 to the winner .

Don't have any more details though.

There is a half on in Kilkenny, on 18th Sept. About 300 runners too part last year. It starts and finishes at the castle, and takes in a lot of countryside.

Not a definitive list but I have highlighted ones that are top of my list

    Sept 3rd: Dingle Half Marathon
Sept 4th: Costal; Charity Challange Luisbourgh to westport
Sept 4th: National Half Marathon Waterford
Sept 10th: Declan Hayes Memorial, Doonbeg Co Clare
Sept 11th: Cork Half Marathon Blarney
Sept 17th: National Lottery Half marathon Dublin
    Sept 18th: Charleville Half Marathon
    Sept 18th: Kilkenny Half Marathon
    Sept 25th Mooathon Half
Oct 1st: Valentia Island Half Marathon
Oct 1st: Galway Bay Half Marathon
Oct 2nd: Cork to Cobh 15 Mile Race
    Oct 9th: Termonbary Half Marathon

Shame some many halfs are around this time of the year.

Slightly different but there is the 3/4 marathon on Oct 2 in Glasson ( just outside Athlone ). Hilly in parts and ideal prep for Dublin.

To save me opening a new thread just a quick question.

I was thinking of doing the National Half Marathon in Waterford on the 4th and the Phoenix Park half a couple of weeks later. Be my first try at the distance and i'm currently working on the Higdon half plan. I want to be able to put my best foot forward in both races so just wondering would i be able to do that or would i still be feeling it a fortnight later?

Causeway Coast Half, 1st Oct maybe, or is that too late?

im by no means an expert or anything but i personally found my first half (in may ) took a lot out of me , if you wanted to do both , i would be inclined to run waterford as a training run , and then maybe give dublin your all , its only a 2 week gap between them, again though everyone is different with differnt levels of training and strenght! best of luck with them !!:)

    Hi,
The Valentia Island half marathon is on Saturday 1st October, this would be a great warm up for the Dublin Marathon. You can find details on www.valentiaislandtriathlonclub.com

Gonna do the Kilomarathon in Moone anyway.

And though I haven't entered it yet, as a Kerryman I guess the half marathon in beautiful Valentia is a must.

Charleville Half Marathon is Flat, with the exception of one small hump-back bridge over the main Cork-Dublin railway line. There are also some long straight sections on the route. Ideal for a PB, if you are aiming for one.

    That's a great list ger664 put together.

I'd say do one with a few hills in it if you're getting ready for Dublin. The sections from Phoenix park to half way and from 18 to 21 miles in DCM feature few decent drags and one or two outright hills
