    Ok, weird one.

I just moved into a new apartment in Dublin city centre and I have noticed my hair really being a lot greasier since the move. My shampoo seems to lather ok, but my hair gets greasy now within the day. That never happened before. Any ideas on what I can do to remedy this? It's really bugging me.

It could be the water in your new place, is it hard?

    Hi there,

Is the water in your new place soft? I read somewhere before that soft water can make your hair feel like it hasn't been rinsed properly after shampooing. I don't know how easy it would be to treat the water to make it hard or medium (?) but you could try using a clarifying shampoo to combat the effects in the meantime.

I think it could be the hardness of the water in your new place baby and crumble! I know when I wash my hair when I'm back in Sligo it doesn't get greasy half as quickly as it does when I'm in Maynooth. The water is a lot harder in Maynooth (as seen by the amount of limescale in the kettle >.<).

I know this is a bit of a random idea, but my I remember my mum telling me that my granny used to collect rain water in a bucket and wash her hair with it because rain water is soft water? Never tried it myself, but you could give it a go :D

How recently did you move? The hot recent weather has been making my hair very greasy very soon so this could be a factor. Also, Dublin city air is full of crap and I find my hair gets quite grimy when I'm in there a lot, it could be a combination of the two for your hair! The water hardness can really effect how well your shampoo works too it may lather well but, because there are so many foaming agents in it, it will do this regardless of how well it is cleaning your hair.

+1 on a clarifying shampoo, maybe not every day but a few times a week to keep your hair clean. The rain water idea does work, I know quite a few people who have tried it and got great results, but it's a serious pain in the ass to collect and do you really want to be collecting inner city rainwater to clean your hair?!

    Thanks for the replies, guys.

I think i'll try the clarifying shampoo and see how i get on. I doubt inner city rain would be the best thing to collect, like lorebringer said!

Its the hardness of the water, definitely! When I moved to London my hair went mental- lank and greasy-looking all the time! It sorted itself out in a couple of months but I still notice that when I'm back in Ireland I can get a lot more volume into it.

What I did for a while was have a large jug of warm water with some lemon juice in it beside the shower and would rinse my hair in that at the end, which seemed to help. Can't remember where I heard that now but apparently anything acidic like vinegar washes the hard water residue off your hair (citrus smelling hair is nicer than smelling like a chippers though!)
