Hi, I was just looking for a bit of advice. I recentlygot accepted to graduate veterinary medicine in UCD, unfortunately the fees are 19,500 per year. I have gone to all the banks but the most they will give me at present is 2000. Has anyone had to deal with this problem.? Or does anyone have any advice for me?

    Hey

How is that, Do the vet offers come out before round 0 on August 4th or whats the story?

You should try AIB they seem to be the best according to what I'm hearing.

Unfortunately this is a huge problem at the moment for Irish grad vet students. I was lucky and began the year befor ethe 4 year course was introduced, so I can cope with the 10k a year between jobs and credit union loans etc. however I know a lot of the people in the year below me are really struggling to meet the financial demands of the course. It's a sad fact, but the oweness is on the student to meet these demands, as they are made aware of them from the get-go, and are advised not to apply unless they can meet them.

That said, options do exist, and payment can be put off until later in the year (unofficially) so shop anywhere relevant, all banks, building societies, credit unions etc, and if all else fails rob a bank!! :-)

As an aside, Ulsterbank have been incredible to me throughout the course of my veterinary (and undergraduate) education so far, and I would definitely talk to them first. I was a lifelong BOI customer and they were pretty much useless to me.

    Finally, congratulations on getting in.

I am a lifelong Ulsterbank customer and they won't help me at all. I am in the same position as the person who got the course but I have to pay 15,600 as I am in the five year course. In graduate medicine in the RCSI and University of Limerick both places have agreements with Financial Institutions to provide student loans for the fees. Is such a facility present for Veterinary? I have been in UCD a long time and don't expect them to help me as the admin really just want to make sure their wages are paid.

I also wonder what percentage of the new graduates are in this position? Maybe a collective approach by everyone will the put the college under enough pressure to do something about this unrealistic situation.

I have just read your comments on the fees. Unfortunatley I am in the same situation. I am having no luck in accessing the money. I think a collective approach may be of help. Have you any ideas ??
