Nice car, never had one but 140bhp would strike me as fairly underpowered in a car of that size.

    Thinking the same myself

There is a PD engine that has a weak oil pump. This should be avoided. At all costs.
I think the later engines are OK though. (CD i think).
Some of them have bad injectors also, but again, I think they are in the older engines.
Friend of mine has a 07 A6 TDI 140 and the car just couldn't give any more trouble.
Injectors, oil pump failure, which also resulted in a turbo failure. He just got a really bad one, but these problems are common enough. There are are a few threads on here relating to horror stories.

The 09 will have the CR engine. Apart from being slightly underpowered they are pure bog standard with dam all toys for the price you pay.

Can you confirm what motor tax band the car you're looking at falls into?

Arent they in band B Chris (156 euro P/A).

The 09 is in band B, but is referred to as 136BHP in all the literature.
The pre-facelift was always referred to as the 140BHP, and I'm hoping the OP isn't looking at a car that sat for ages unregistered and is in band E for tax (unless they're getting a savage deal on it).

Most likely new model Chris the new model was readily available in 08 but who knows.. R.O.R is the only man to answer that..:)

Funny enough I was looking at a brand new one in the Hospital car park this evening and it was poorly specced, it even had the non dimming rear view mirror and cheap looking cloth seats.

Oh yeah, it's probably the new one, but it was enough to make my ears perk up and make me think of the poor, forlorn, moss covered cars that sit in a storage yard for years before being registered by dealers with massive discount from the importer...

I'd imagine 140bhp is a bit weak for a car the size and weight of an A6. Most Irish spec ones tend to be pretty bare too.

I think the Mod formerly known as Audi Chris might have a bit of knowledge on the subject ;)

A new A6 shouldn't have cloth seats. Leather has been standard on the A6 since the introduction of MY10. There was only 1 specification available since then and that had leather (most had the innovation pack as well). The C7 A6 SE has leather as standard. S-Line has half leather/half alcantara sports seats as standard.

The 136 and 140's are surprisingly brisk for a car that size. I'm always amazed when I drive one at how quick they feel, and we've had people who've been in them temporarily as what the power of them is when they come back.

If it's an Irish car then in all likelyhood it's the 136 version (unless, as Chris said, it was sitting around a while). If it's a UK import it could be either. I think they were selling the 140 and the 136 (2.0Tdi E) side by side in the UK. We only got the 136 here because the emissions brought it in to band B - the 140 would have been a lot more expensive because of the higher VRT.

Quick look at the service history of some 08/09 cars doesn't show any issues.

I think it might be time for me to go to Specsavers because upon further examination it was an A4 I looked at....:o:o:o:o

Actually I was not here when Audi Chris was a Mod but I heard some fairly hairy stories about him...:D:D:D

Thanks Guys for ye're input, i'm now thinking of an 09 A4 140bhp have had a few test drives and most note the 09 A4 is not as zippy as my 05 A4 140bhp so I will just prob get it remapped to perk it up a bit.

Chris you were spot on with this advice. I seen a 09 A4 in Cork earlier it was the old model. By looking at the reg it was registered about february. I thought they were all gone by mid 08 but no. You know your stuff Chief..:)

It happens with virtually all importers, especially if they bring in something for stock with an unusual spec. It can sit in the yard for ages before someone's got the stones to register it.

There's no real issue as such (as long as the rubbers haven't aged or whatever), as long as the price reflects the age/desirability of the car.

I've seen a couple of people buy stonking cars at knock down prices, but if the buyer isn't switched on an unscrupulous sales person might foist an old model on them for the normal price and keep the additional discount the importer's offered on it as extra profit.

My 09 SE has climate, cruise, fog lamps, voice control, phone bluetooth, full leather, CD/SD card music player, trip computer, auto wipers, alloys, 4 spoke steering wheel with controls and more.

OP, the 136BHP is giving me an average of 50MPG since I got it 2 1/2 years ago. €156 road tax. Servicing every 30,000 KMs at about €200 a time.

There is a post here that states that the CR engines should be OK. Its the PD engines that give the issues I believe.

And everything else is holding its value? Seeing as I always intending holding on to it for a long time it doesn't matter to me.
