I have uploaded a video of my Volvo engine and there is an awful sound coming from it

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7XyYND-X3w

have any of you come across this problem. Apparently it is a common problem with these engines - something about the VVT (variable valve timing)???

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe its the charcoal canister solenoid clicking, bit of a guess though.

thanks i got this from another forum where someone had the same problem

"Variable Valve Timing solenoid, and this particular fault is associated with the camshaft pulley which I'm told has some vernier scale mechanism for varying the valve timing"

    apparently v common with volvos.

Any ideas how much this would cost to get fixed or where best in dublin to go to?

If you are on the Northside, Scully Autocare are supposed to be very good and have a Volvo master technician.

On the Southside, I would recommend Dave Curry Motors in Rathgar as a reputable set-up.

If you need any more detailed information, there is no better site than: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk

I think the cam shaft is able to advance slightly ahead of the actual pulley that is on the cam shaft, by means of the end of the camshaft rotating within the pully by hydraulic means, with the oil controlled by the solenoid valve. Thats a different solenoid than the one i guessed at earlier. Ive had a few cans though, again:)
