Question about UPC charging for services which were cut off.

I was chatting to my cousin yesterday. She was having financial problems, and couldn't pay her UPC bill for 2 months. (Approx €200). So UPC cut her off for a month. No problems here.

But, when she went to pay them for the 2 months - they wanted her to pay for the third month also. I said to her that it doesn't make sense that they would charge her for a service that they had cut off. Her bill in total was a little over €300.

Could someone clarify this? I am of the view that she shouldn't have to pay for a month's service, as there was no service on account of it being cut off. Am I correct, or is there some loophole that allows UPC to charge?

Was your cousin still in contract? I presume the extra 100 EUR was a cancellation fee?.

    From UPC T&Cs:
"The in-contract cancellation fee of 100euro will be applied to your bill if your service is cancelled while still within the 12-month contract period."

No, it wasn't a cancellation fee. She did not cancel the service. They cut off the service, but not at her request. She re-activated the service by paying for the 2 months missed.

They stated to her quite clearly that she was being charged for the month's services - not a cancellation fee.
