Looks like I may have to pop over to Bristol from Dublin.

I see Aer Arann are a slight bit cheaper, but are there any major differences I should consider.

    Thanks in advance.

Shorter flight with Ryanair, B737 alot faster than the ATR.

Surely you would pick the 737 every time.

I'd like to give the smaller airline a go. Figured it may be a longer flight, but hey, I wouldn't need sunglasses for the interior:D

Want to chill, not be looking at hassle.

Think I will look a bit closer at which timetable suits better.

+ 1. I have used Aer Arann or (EI Regional) out of SNN and ORK. No queing for 1 hour in the express lane, no cattle charge onto the tarmac and none of that "smokeless cigarettes, lottery tickets and that infernal bugle charge "you have arrived on time". The F.a.'s are nice people too.

Dont forget you will get an assigned seat on Aer Arann ( you can choose which one at online check-in) and in general the whole operation is much less hectic than on ryanair.

I have been using the Bristol-Dublin Route regularly of late (sometime 2 return flights a week)

Have to say I was always an Aer Arran fan and the current crop of prices means that AL Regional is very competetive with Ryanair. On overall price alone Ryanair are the cheapest in the main BUT

    Positives for AL Regional

    1. Location of gates in Dublin T1 - the 200+ gates are right after Security outbound and inbound - so much quicker than Ryanair's gates (long walk)
    2. Less crush at the gate and easy transfer to the aircraft
    3. AL Regional cabin staff smile and are very pleasant to speak to (Ryanair staff seem tense all the time and you are just a mark to sell to)
    4. Pre-assigned seats (don't be fooled into paying for seats in the low number rows on the ATR-72 you board and deplane at the rear so why pay 10 euros for Row 1 and 5 Euros for the rest? If you want to "push" where you sit reject the first offered Seat number (Row 7 usually) and keep rejecting till you get Row 12,14,15 etc) at NO extra Cost)
    5. Yes they sell stuff on AL (Regional) but no constant nag announcements and sellling of lottery tickets and e-ciggies (as mentioned above)
    6. Ambience - calmer surroundings, no pushing to get onto the aircraft
    7. comfier seating though noisier background aircraft noise (tuboprop).
    8. You are not "living O'Leary's Nightmare"

    Negatives for AL (Regional)
    1. Can be much pricier as Taxes and Charges "seem" to push punters towards the early flight from Dublin (06:20) so a 0.00 euro flight will have a 19.99 euro tax and extras charge but the 4.99 euro price will have a 33.99 tax and charge addon...
    2. Smaller aircraft is running all ober the country aftyer return to Dublin so any weather hold ups could cause delay (had one 3 hour hold up in May).

    Positives for Ryanair

    1. Overall prices will be lower over a set peiod as long as you book 7+ days ahead.
    2. eerrrrmmmmmm

    Negatives for Ryanair

1 Do I really need to list them all?.......

Overall I have used AL: for the past 3 months on a 70:30 split for 12 return flights in past 3 months.

My first choice will be AL Regional

I like their product and I really think I am helping a struggling Aer Arann at a time when we need choice where O'Leary would rather we have none.

Sorry you are having to use Bristol as it really is a massive Pain in the A*** for onward connections being out in the field of South Bristol. Not too bad for me as I can get there and back to my house in 15 minutes but the Coach into the centre of the city can be slow in the traffic.

    Good luck

    Hugh

Same here. I had a great flight with Aer Árainn and really not much of a time difference either.

Flew Shannon to Bristol with Aer Lingus Regional at the weekend, one hour each way and no problems. Great service

    Thanks everyone.

Its interesting the amount of people saying Aer Arran, but boy do they get some bad press.

Just looking back through this forum about issues, go arounds, crashes and now today this, I think I will play safe with FR.

I've a distinct feeling we're getting one side of that story only.

I'd use RE over FR any day, even taking the smaller cabin baggage allowance; unless the price difference was stratospheric.

I've used FR twice (well, one round-trip so 3x) in seven years and each time has reminded me why I said I'd never fly them again; but as there's no competition to Leeds Bradford and they had the only suitable un-booked-out flights to Gatwick one morning, I had to...

The "never again" came from being not allowed change seat (on an unassigned seating airline!!) from one where the reclining mechanism would only go backwards, admittedly it was in EI-CJE a few months or even weeks before it went to be cut up...

    living O'Leary's Nightmare

Jaysus, what a load of rubbish. Obviously someone with a load of prejudice. I've flown with both Ryanair and Aer Arann and never had a problem with either except the Aer Arann was late by an a hour and a half a couple of times and the plane was ramshackle on the inside. Wouldn't stop flying with them just because of that. Don't take any of this anti-Ryanair stuff on board either. Most of the vitriol comes from Aer Lingus or ex-Aer Lingus types who saw their cushy lifestyle (at the taxpayers expense) ruined when Ryanair broke them. Just go with whichever one you want to at whatever price suits you best.
