Worst Tag Line for a movie?

Seen the poster off "The Mechanic" with Jason Statham the other day. The tag line just left me a bit perplexed.

"Someone has to fix the problems".

I mean, what the **** does that even mean? What problems? Does he fix cars? Whos problems are they? And after watching the film I'm not much wiser.

Really? Who comes up with this crap? Lets explain it with the picture shall we? Here give him a rope, give him a gun, make him look well 'ard?

    Bollocks.

    Commando

If there's a mission that no man could survive...then *he's* the man for the job. :pac:

    or

Somewhere... somehow... someone's going to pay :pac:

    :pac::pac:

    Does pure cheese count?

    Nah pure cheese is great.

I meant tag lines that make no sense at all though.

I always thought the one for Jerry Maguire was bad...

    'Everybody Loved Him. Everybody Disappeared'.

What, was he a mass murderer? Or did a virus get them all?

None are coming to mind that fit the bill but as a place holder i want to add the cheesiest tagline of all time, i know thats not what youre asking for OP but it has to be said.

The film in question is the hilariously terrible zombie nazi film "Dead Snow" but with the hilariously brilliant tagline:

    Ein! Zwei! Die!

If a tagline is designed to make you remember the film then mission accomplished Dead Snow guys, Bravo. :D

There's a blog for everything these days, and taglines are no exception. Here are some samples from Tagline Guru:
    • It’s not like they didn’t warn us. (Signs)
    • The coast is toast. (Volcano)
    • This Christmas, the snow hits the fan. (The Santa Clause)
    • Which witch is which? (Wicked Stepmother)
    • It’s The Godfather on laughing gas. (Married to the Mob)

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

There was a crap movie in the horror section of Chartbusters a few years back, i think it was called either The Kitchen 2 or The Fridge 2, and the tagline was...'Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the kitchen'.

Green Zone "bourne goes to iraq"

Agree with above. They were reviewer comments that marketing ran with, even if totally inacurate

I found "This summer..... pirates rule the seas but snakes rule the skies" a bit cheesey but funny :-)

Was that even a reviewer comment? The Adjustment Bureau wasn't like either of those films....

Also liked the social networks cringe worthy sinister undertone with "you don't make 500million friends without making a few enemies!"

By no means the worst tagline but I always thought this was just such a boring one:

One of the taglines for Open Water 2: Adrift, I think it's on the German poster, is "In the water no one can hear you scream"

Actually, yes, yes they can because unlike space, sound actually travels through water. *facepalm*

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,622 ✭✭✭blue note

    Some gold on this thread!

I loved the one for AVP2 - In space, no-one can hear you scream. On earth - everyone can!

Hobo with a shotgun had a great one too, but I can't remember it exactly.

Day of the Dolphin's tag line takes the biscuit for me,

One of my favourite books - I must try to see the film.
