    Hi All,

I am looking for help in finding a solution to a problem that I have.
I am looking to possibly have a camera in a remote location (battery powered) and then have the capability of logging in and checking this camera? Maybe record from it back at my location. Does anyone know if this has been/can be done? The main problem is the means of medium to stream the live feed over. Would it be best over a gsm network? Costs would probably be high.

Any input would be greatly appreciated..

    Thanks

    W

If you had line of sight (up to 15km if the website is to be believed) you could use an IP camera and wireless technology

    http://www.ubnt.com/

IP camera would be about €100.00
    2 X Nano-stations would be about €150.00
Bit of cable and something to mount the camera and nano-station.

It would need some kinda power source thou, Solar and/or battery perhaps

Is there any option to have it plugged in?

If so I would use a netbook with camera.

What sort of conditions will it be working in?
Is there only a chance of battery power?
To log into the camera you would probable need a static IP

instal skype on pc or laptop and change the skype setting to answer calls automatically. Then anytime you call your machine's camera it will connect straight away with no ring tone. You then can stream for free. To record use free video retrieval software.

I have a V90 GSM camera. It doesn't work for me, but it works very well for other people I've contacted in places like Spain and Russia. You put a SIM card in it and dial the number from anywhere, you get a picture message with a shot from the camera taken at that time sent to your mobile. Anyone know how to get these cameras to work on Irish phone networks?

Battery power could be a real pain, even if you put a solar panel charging it, the battery is going to have a maximum life span of around five years if it's charged properly.

I've seen the system Big Lars talks about working up to a kilometre, but it was going between two buildings that had electricity.

Yep, the battery in it is only worth a day or so.
But if I can get it to work I'll use a small car battery with a homemade stepdown to 4volts and plug it into the normal charging point on the camera. Should last weeks on that, sitting there on idle current nearly all day, a few milliamps I'd say.

I think you'd need internet access for these ideas. Over the mobile phone network would be best for a remote location, my guess? (unless you have a satellite linkup to internet, possible but more costly whichever way you do it). But I'm still trying to figure it out, keep the suggestions coming...
