Could I ask that the application form be posted elsewhere, or that someone email it to me? Due to IS Services deactivating students who've finished their BA but have already accepted a postgraduate place, I'm still in College but have no way to access services.

Shame that it has to be 8-10am each morning, seems like that would rule out the majority of students?

Who wants to go to 9am lectures anyway?

I'd have been all over this save for my one module, with no notes, being at only at 9am Monday and Friday...

Have you got your timetable already??

When does one find out if they've gotten the job or not?

I for one wouldn't have too high hopes for getting a job as a shelver. Apart from the financial constraints the library is under, the method they use in recruiting people seems very smokescreen. They publish a list of criteria against which they rank people for calling them to interview etc., yet friends I know who have lots of previous experience in libraries, bookshops etc- the kind of work that you would imagine would be extremely valuable- didn't even get called for an interview. Just my two cents anyway.

I applied for this job the last two years and never even got an interview despite the fact that I have worked full time in Blanchardstown library previously.

It's any two hours between 7am and 10am, and I've heard they're quite reasonable about working around your timetable (can't say for sure of course, but hopefully!).
When does one find out if they've gotten the job or not?

Interviews are on the 22nd and 23rd of September, according to the website, so I'd imagine you'd find out pretty quickly after that - considering term starts the following Monday.

You don't have a prestigious post code. (D7)

Perhaps the process went something like this:

CV Screener No.1: Look, this one here has some relevant experience! Worked in Blanchardstown Library of all places.
CV Screener No.2: Blanchardstown Library? *scoffs loudly*
CV Screener No.1: Oh now, it couldn't have been too easy... sorting all 10 books!
(uproarious laughter all around. CV Screener No.1 flings CV into open log fire. CV Screener No.2, still laughing, drops monacle into sherry glass resulting in a light splattering of alcohol on his smoking jacket.)
    Fin.

Has anyone gone for the interview with them in the last few years? And if so what is it like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,512 ✭✭✭baby and crumble

I went for it last year and got it. The interview was grand, mostly questions around an experience of working under pressure; an example of being organised, etc. There were 3 women at the interview, the student shelver liaison women. All really nice ladies.

They are pretty accommodating if you have lectures that crop up during the year. I know they prefer mature students or postgrads.

I would have loved to keep working there this year, but 4th year of a PhD, just not a runner, I'm going to be away doing fieldwork and writing up. :(

Cheers for the information on the interview! :) Does anyone know where it's being held? My time was taken by a colleague of the woman organising it, so I didn't get much information at the time. I'm assuming possibly somewhere in the BLU, and I've already emailed to ask where but if someone knows off the top of their head it would be wonderful.

Hi, does anyone know when positions can be applied for this year (2012-13)?
    Thanks.
