    Hi,

Does anyone know of insurance that covers hiking/mountaineering expeditions? One that would cover everything incl extreme cases. e.g. mortgage, etc in event of death/disability

    Thanks.

    Hi K09

    Try World Nomads (www.worldnomads.com)

I got insurance with them last year when travelling to Nepal. No Irish company at the time (not sure if they do now) could cover me about 4000m. They were way cheaper than anyone else I tried and were always quick to answer an email.

Regarding extreme cases (like death) I am not certain but its a good place to start

I was out trekking in Nepal last year aswell and VHI travel insurance covered me for any hospital visits I might have needed out there or a medical evacuation if it was needed. I think the coverage was upto 6000m metres so that will cover Everest Base Camp and Annapurna treks. Saying all that I already had the travel policy when I ran them up...

I not sure what there policy was for extreme cases, I didn't want to think the worst could happen. The company I was doing the trek with just wanted me to be covered for a medical evac...

    Look up the BMC insurance:

Although I heard recently that they no longer provide it to Irish residents:

That problem with the Irish Residents getting covered is now sorted:

The BMC do offer a very comprehensive range of insurance. I have used them for Mt Blanc and a 50 day treck, you could also look up the Austrian Alpine Club I have heard they provide insurance with membership....
