Sprint one week after olympic distance

    Hi Folks,

I'm doing Kilkenny olympic distance next week and am considering a sprint the following week. Reason being that I'm away for a lot of August so realistically have no chance to race after that due to work and part-time college commitments.

Question is, what are the pitfalls / things to look out for? I train consistently all year round despite having only done two sprints- the most recent being Athy which went well. I just feel that doing only 2 races this Summer might not be worth all the training (which I do enjoy otherwise in truth!!)

Is a sprint a week after my first olympic too much? Would like to hear from others who have done similar - I'm sure there are plenty. Thanks

It's not ideal but if its just for fun go for it. In the week between the Oly and Sprint just take it pretty easy and make sure your well recovered. A first Oly will take a good bit outta ya so important to take a few days off/very easy.

I'd say you wont preform to your 100% best in the 2nd race but you should have no major issues.

I dont see why you cant do it. As mentioned it might make you perform a little off your best time for the sprint. Ive done races close together, (not sprint/oly) and I only ran into burnout problems when I did it a lot. At worst, you can look on the sprint as a training session with a free teeshirt or whatever, and just get the experience out of it.

    So go for it, enjoy.

    x2.

The sprint probably won't be much longer than the brick sessions you've been doin gin training anyway.

You wont perform to your optimum. Run will be a real struggle. Not what you want ot hear. If you give olympic 100% you will be wrecked. Why not change ot sprint on first one and olympic 2nd one ??

disagree, shouldnt take more than 7 days to recover from an olympic.

Its what you do in between to flush the legs and body that counts.

No reason not to. You train to race. Racing is fun. Go for it!! You may not perform to your best ability but it sounds like it'll be next year before you get to go again.
