Going through Sallynoggin in Dublin this morning. Spotted the Garda bike parke well up on the pavement, but no Garda. Then spotted him, standing at the edge of the road some 20-30 yards beyond the bike, but no speed gun.

As it happens, I was fine, but I needed petrol, so pulled in to the garage just beyond the Gard. Got talking to the station attendant -he claimed that the Speedgun was on the bike, and the Gard was using the walkie talkie (in his hand) to communicate/recieve a signal from the bike/gun. While I was filling up the Gard pulled two cars in, had a word for a minute, but no formal details. Apparently the Gard had been there the day before for 2-3 hours, and had pulled over 20 vehicles.

Anybody seen this set up before?

Sounds more like a normal checkpoint TBH as opposed to a speed check. I think ur man was talkin a bit of caca actually..

    +1

Why would you un man your speed checking device and stand down the road to walkie talkie back to it ?

    Seems a bit pointless really.

+1 on the reguala checkpoint thing...

i could be 100% wrong here but there are often garda bikes outside my work and all that appears to be on them is one of them new digital motorola radio things so i doubt they have speed cameras on them..

Copper is probably on radio to his mate hiding in the bushes further up the road with his speed gun, does'nt want to stop cars and reveal his cunning hiding place (saving lives of course)

I saw a Speed Camera Disguised as an Emergency Phone that had wires going to a van (here in the Netherlands)

Was doing around 130 on the speedo passing a van.

Now i'll just have to wait and see

    FFFFUUUUUUUU !!!! :mad::mad:

+1, and then he leaves his bike visible a bit up the road to slow people before he walks out in front of them.

if his mate is up the road with a speed gun then they would have to walk all the way back to show the offending driver the gun?

I past something similar on Friday night,

same again guard on a push bike with the 'hair-dryer' in his hand standing between two parked cars.

    didn't stop me, but I think I got caught doing 60ish in a 50.
didn't pass a second guard either.

likelihood of points and a fine?
