How to Bring a Filipino Fighter to Ireland

    Greetings,

I'm currently spending a lot of time in the Philippines and have met a gentleman who has a gym with a bunch of fighters. His best prospect is rated #9 in the WBO and is a flyweight. He has expressed an interested in bringing his fighter to Ireland to face off against a comparable talent.

I'm not at all familiar as to how to go about organising this or who are the prospective fighters that would make this a good match. Thoughts and ideas would be appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    Nick

Contact Gary Hyde of Nowhere to Hyde Promotions.

He brought a few Cubans here.

Thank you Bodhisopha. I can't find contact details for Gary on the web, do you know how I can contact him?

Are you aware of any possible Irish fighters that would be suitable?

    Thank you,

    Nick

We haven't had a Flyweight of that quality for nearly 10 years, when Damaen Kelly was operating at that weight class.

Our best two fighters at(or near), or should I say only fighters are Jamie Conlon and Luke Wilton. Wilton is gutsy, tough and aggressive, but will find himself out of his depth whenever he is eventually put in a British/Commonwealth title fight or at that level. Conlon is capable of going further than Wilton and isn't a bad prospect, but would he be ready to fight a 10 rounder(which this would presumely be) at a much greater level than he's experienced before ?, quite probably not.

I'm guessing this is Rey Perez(WBO #9 at Flyweight) you're talking about, I've never seen him fight but his record does indicate he is somewhat lucky to have such a high World ranking, or even a World ranking at all at this stage. We'll find out how good he is when he faces Nashiro, but if he takes any rounds at all off the Japanese fighter and goes the distance then it would be well advised for the 2 Irish boys to stay well away.

He is only 20 however so I'm guessing he could fill out a bit, if he'd like to move up to Super-Bantamweight I'm sure we could facilitate him with any of 3 fighters who'd be happy to face him :D

Thank you Big Ears. That's the lad alright, I saw him in the gym. My acquaintance, who owns the gym, knows Rey needs a lot more experience and thats why he is sending him to fight in Japan.

So I don't know the first thing about boxing and will heed your advice that there's not much on offer here for Rey unless he changes weight.
