Low flying ATR

    Hi,

an ATR went overhead Stillorgan this afternoon at about 1000/1500 feet. Didn't get to see it until it passed overhead heading West. Did a circle (the plane, not me!) to the South and back around to West and headed off. Body looked grey/unmarked. Any ideas why an ATR would be overflying an area like this so low and in such an odd pattern?

    cheers,
    Mikey

'Twas C252, Air Corps Casa, was approaching Casement and took up a couple of patterns at the Marlay Park hold and continued on to land RWY05. I assume it was so low because RWY10 was active at Dublin and it was basically flying right under what is effectively the right downwind for RWY10.

Thanks PhonyPony. Never seen (or at least noticed this) before. I work from home in an office in my garden so I'm usually aware of all sorts of a/c overhead. Unusual (and thrilling) to see it so low. Thought it might be the air corp. but it's nice to have it confirmed. Lovely looking aircraft. Never got my FSX version off the ground coz the pre-flight takes so long :-). Will be watching out for that again. Lots of activity overhead today. Obviously the weather brought out tonnes of light a/c too. Sure I saw a Mooney Bravo fly over this afternoon also,

    cheers for the info,

    Mikey

... I never get used to how 'close' we are to EIDW. It's such a long drive from here but of course at a/c speeds it makes sense that the right downwind for rwy 10 would be this far south - never thought about that!

Nice vid. 1500ft was low enough for it to shake my building. Pretty impressive sight overhead.

Funnily enough I saw it and was vaguely wondering what it was at. It being a long way from the sea. My sister jokingly said she would report it for low flying. We were chatting outside on that very subject.
