Silent toggle

    Hi all,

My silent toggle switch on my 3GS is not working properly. When set to silent mode the phone constantly goes in and out of silent mode software wise without me touching the switch. This is very annoying as phone constantly vibrates!

The phone is 17 months old. Will apple be the best people to contact for a fix? Will they do it under warranty (2 years in EU correct?)

    Thanks

Warranty is one year from date of purchase. If its just the switch, its an easy fix and any good shop should be able to do it for €50 or less. My vote is these guys if you based anywhere near them as the use OEM parts: http://www.fonemenders.ie/

    Thanks!

Is there any way I can be sure its the switch and not some other circuitry gone bad?

I wouldn't let that shower near anything more complex than a sweeping brush......"its water damaged", "its been dropped"....yes, from what I have seen of Fonemenders, they are the ones that drop it.......

Not really but given what you've described, it sounds like a bad connection in the switch / ribbon.

I've never had any problems with them myself, in the Sandyford branch anyway. Very upfront about cost and normally half the cost. One crowd on Abbey St quoted me €390 for an iPhone 3GS repair, the exact same repair in Sandyford was €100 with genuine parts.

But like anything these days it comes down to personal experience with certain shops. It seems hard to get a consensus on good shops I find, would make a good thread actually!

If its a software issue try software fixes like Resetting settings or restoring the phone in iTunes and see if that resolves the issue.

Haven't bothered getting any prices. Gonna justify getting an iPhone 5 with it :)
