I've been at NUIG for 3 years now and have finished my degree, I'm going to do my masters here now, my question is will there be any changes to my email? As if I remember correctly that accounts are deleted after graduation, will mines require a new email address or will it simply carry on as I'm doing my masters. Cheers for the help.

My email address stayed the same - so long as you're going straight in it won't be a problem. I think you can email off (I forget where) and have it changed to firstname.surname@nuigalway.ie if you want.
Though why anyone uses hotmail is beyond me...

Wouldn't touch the outlook client, have it synced to my Gmail and my mail apps. Thanks for the info.

I asked them to do this and they told me to take a hike.

Not true, research postgrads are entitled to get a firstname.surname address:

Because the IMAP is botched and you can't push your mail to an email client anymore?

That's exactly why I use hotmail, oh, wait...

Your email address should remain the same, so too will your student ID.

I use Gmail for all my email, pulling my NUIG mail with the POP3 settings.

It only checks every hour or so though. So in outlook.com I also have it forwarding emails into my Gmail - they forward through straight away as coming from my *@nuigalway.ie address. The email coming from the correct sender (allowing direct reply) will then arrive on the next pop3 refresh.

In Gmail labs though you can now enable a pop3 refresh icon on your gmail page! So you receive the fwd'd NUIG email, click the refresh pop3 icon and you have the email from the correct sender and can have Gmail automatically select your @nuigalway.ie address as the sender if you're replying.

Ah, I fixed it in the mean time. And really? POP3? Is this Nineteen Dickety Two?

IMAP reflects on the server what you do on the client. So if you delete something in your Gmail/Thunderbird/Outlook Express it will also delete it on the server. Email duplication hurts my brain.

I've an inbox rule set-up in my NUIG outlook email that sends on my emails to my gmail address, however it comes through from the actual sender rather than being "forwarded" from my *@nuigalway.ie address (hope that makes sense). I think it "re-directs the email rather than "forward" it. So I don't have any need to have POP3 set-up in my gmail account.
