Anyone know the general cost of scoring? Popped into my vets today and they told me they could do hip and elbow for 230euro. Eye on the other hand will have to be done by an eye specialist. Anyone know roughly how much this will be as well?

Not sure how much the eye testing is. Hip scoring works out around 150 or so between cost of x-rays being taken and the fee for the B.V.A. in the UK. Im not sure how much extra the Elbow scoring is.

But can i just advise you something. Please make sure your vet is very very experienced with hip/elbow scoring as the scores can only be submitted once.

If you feel the x-rays werent scored correctly it could be due to a bad x-ray being taken so i highly advise you go to a recommended vets that specialise in it.

I would recommend you go to the Vet College in UCD to get the hip/elbow scoring done.

That'll definitely be a fun trip on the train:D But I know where you're coming from; to be honest I dont think i trust my local guys enough to have it done with them. It'll be another few months anyway before I'll be getting it done.

Do the breed club not organise eye clinics? Check with the IKC, another breed club may have one organised, open to all breeds, and that will probably be cheaper than going along to an eye specialist yourself.

Jesus Christ, how did i not even think of the Breed club? Major facepalm moment. Thanks ISDW, as you can see, didn't even think of that.

And Tillygirl- I used to be a veterinary nurse but left the profession two years ago when we moved. Have been trying to find a good vet since, but still haven't found one that I'm completely happy with.

I had my dogs eyes tested through the breed club and it cost €30 as a club member. doesn't take long, just a few drops in eyes and wait a while, then check. Just be warned the dog can't see too well after and is libel to bump into things(or maybe that was just my chap, he bumps into things a lot, and his eyes are fine, he's just a loon)
