80,000 Miles on a 2003 Magane

    Hi Guys,

I bought a Renault Megane 2003 1.4 Dynamique and it has 80000 miles on it.

I viewed a car the weekend that was advertised with a dealer that said it had 60000 miles on the advert. I looked at the car and it looked great but never checked the miles on that day. STUPID! They gave me the registration details and I signed on the line and bought the car with collection ready within two days.

I got a call this morning from the dealer and he said he made a mistake and gave me the wrong registration details for the car and he apologised. Anyway I collected the car and he amended the reg details on the invoice/settlement voucher plus the mileage went from 60000 to 80000.

I was really disappointed about this as I feel the dealer took advantage of me as I really know nothing about cars and when I question him about this he was sure that this was the details advertised. I saved the advertisement details in an email in which he said it must have been a mistake.

Long story short, I checked both registrations when I got back to my home and they are both Renault Megane cars 2003. What is done is done so I’d like to know is 80000 miles a lot on a 2003 Renault Megane?

    Thanks a million, Topday

Is the car that you bought the same car that you viewed at the weekend?

I've an 01 Megane Scenic with 81,000 miles, never had an issue of any kind with it, never had a breakdown or failure of any sort. Myself or a friend has had this car since 2003 but to be fair its always been very well looked after with servicing, oil changes etc, most of which i do myself, I dont know if the same can be said for your car.

Having said that you might be entitled to some sort of rebate on the price, an 80k car is worth less than the exact same with 60k, the car was wrongly advertised. I've no idea if you are entitled to cancel the contract and get a refund, maybe you need a chat with a solicitor you know or take it to the legal forum.

I'm getting the impression that the OP agreed to buy an 03 Megane with 60k miles, paid, and ended up being given a different 03 Megane, this one with 80k miles. Rather than fixating on the mileage alone, i'd be more concerned about the general condition of this other car relative to the price paid.

The car looks in great condition I must say but for me its just really annoying that this happened. The dealer said after me complaining for 10mins that I can bring it back to him when I want to get it serviced in a couple of months... thats the best he could do as I asked for money off and he said the price paid is the best I'd get as it was a good deal.. Which it was but less of a good deal now that its 20miles more!!

I spoke with my Dad and he is going to speak with my uncle who is a solicitor and to find out is it worth my while!
What is bugging me more than anything is that I was delighted when I bought the car but now I am just annoyed that I have it! :-) Anyway, what is done is done so I guess I got to just enjoy my car with 20,000 miles more

My dad has a 99 Megane that he's owned from new with 183k on it.

However, I don't think this is the issue here. As a previous poster said a car with 80k is worth less than a car with 60k on it.

80k miles is just below average for an 8 year old petrol car.

Forget the miles for a minute, IMO they're far from the most important thing here. Did you end up with the car you agreed to buy, or a different one?

I'd have told him to stick the car to be honest as that stage.
