The Very Classy James Harrison

Once again he opens his mouth and looks even more retarded. This guy is truly a classless act.

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/6764826/james-harrison-pittsburgh-steelers-blasts-roger-goodell-magazine-interview

He says some smart things but they are over shadowed by his stupidity
NEW YORK -- Heavily fined Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison calls NFL commissioner Roger Goodell a "crook" and a "devil," among other insults, in an interview with Men's Journal.

“Dobbs If that man was on fire and I had to piss to put him out, I wouldn't do it. I hate him and will never respect him.
” -- James Harrison on Roger Goodell

He even rips teammates Rashard Mendenhall ("fumble machine") and Ben Roethlisberger for their performances in the Super Bowl loss.

"Hey, at least throw a pick on their side of the field instead of asking the D to bail you out again. Or hand the ball off and stop trying to act like Peyton Manning. You ain't that and you know it, man; you just get paid like he does," he said, referring to Roethlisberger's two interceptions in the game.

The 2008 AP Defensive Player of the Year hasn't been shy about ripping the league after he was docked $100,000 for illegal hits last season. In the August issue of Men's Journal, his rants against Goodell reach another level of wrath.

"If that man was on fire and I had to piss to put him out, I wouldn't do it," Harrison told the magazine. "I hate him and will never respect him."

His other descriptions of the commissioner include an anti-gay slur, "stupid," "puppet" and "dictator."

If the Steelers had defeated the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl, Harrison said, he would have whispered in Goodell's ear during the trophy ceremony: "Why don't you quit and do something else, like start your own league in flag football?"

Harrison also questions whether a black player is punished more for a hard hit on a white player than the opposite.

"I slammed Vince Young on his head and paid five grand, but just touched Drew Brees and that was 20," Harrison said. "You think black players don't see this s--- and lose all respect for Goodell?"

Harrison also criticizes other NFL execs, Patriots-turned-commentators Rodney Harrison and Tedy Bruschi ("clowns"), Houston's Brian Cushing ("juiced out of his mind").

Beyond the insults, Harrison makes some serious points about what he believes are the league's misguided attempts to increase safety. He explains how non-guaranteed contracts make players more likely to hit high, because in the short term, a torn knee ligament is more costly than a concussion.

And Harrison suggests the real way to prevent head injuries is to shorten the season to 14 games, start offseason workouts later and trim the length of training camp so "we're not bangin' heads so much in August; that's where the brain trauma comes from."

Adam Schefter tweeted about the comment ripping Big Ben. Just messing and trash talk I figured.
Only when I read the ESPN report can you put it in context

The man is a fool and clearly has a limited vocabularly if he thinks Goodell can be both a dictator and a puppet at the same time

And it's never good to play the race card

The Rooneys run a high class franchise. Not sure what they'll do next but it'll be interesting to see

You need to brush up on things actually. You can be both.

Really don't know what Harrison is at here. He does come across like an idiot in this. Is he angling for a move or something?

I can understand him going at Roethlisberger, its not about football reasons but he can't say the other stuff because its only alleged.

Love to hear somebody go hard at that that douche of a commissioner even its not very well done.

Harrison is a great player, one of the best in the game over the last 6/7 years but he would be better off keeping his mouth shut. I did find it interesting though about the difference in fines between the Vince Young hit and the Drew Brees hit. They are the first two in this video. He is the one responsible for flipping Vince Young and from my viewing of them he has a point there. If anything the level of fines should have been the other way around.

EE, Ffs man, he has a point about white and black people influencing the fines?

He's not the smartest in that interview, I'll grant you that, but he gets it right about Cushing :p

When he isn't opening his mouth like a petulant little child or laying a cheapshot on other players or hitting other players with some of the worst hits known to the game.

Harrison takes away from his ability because he is a dirty dirty player and he is proud of it. I said it before and I will say it again Look at Ray Lewis and compare him to Harrison. Lewis is ten times the player Harrison is and he doesn't need to be dirty or a d1ckhead about it either.

As for agreeing with him? He does have some valid points but they are overshadowed by his absolute nonsense.

Not really. The hit on Young was in Sept last year. The hit on Brees was in late October last year.

A lot changed between Sept and Oct in terms of publicising head injury and concussions in those months including one weekend where the NFL said enough was enough and fined the sh1t out of everybody, not to mention Harrison was fined 4 or 5 times already this season before the Brees hit.

Yes the Young hit was worst than the Brees hit, but if Harrison can't understand that constantly breaking the rules wont result in larger fines each time, then the NFL have already failed in preventing brain damage.

    Harrison is an idiot.

Complete moron. Bitch and moan about Goddell all you want (even if it is totally idiotic), but to throw your team mates under the bus is totally class-less.

I agree with you that he is an idiot when he speaks. Doesn't mean I can't agree with some of what he is saying even if he doesn't say it the right way.

He is a great player. I know he is dirty and all that but he is still a great player. And Lewis is not ten times the player that Harrison is. Lewis was better than him for sure but Harrison is up there as one of the best linebackers ever imo.

I really don't think he should have been fined at all for the hit on Brees. Flag on the play is the most I'd expect to see anybody get there. I'm not agreeing about black vs white is different, I'd have to look further into that before I'd make any comment on it. I just think there is a point there regarding the fines.
Where are you getting this that a player gets bigger fines because they have been fined more often?

I wouldn't blame anybody for throwing Roethlisberger under a bus metaphorically or otherwise.

When I talk about great players I look at every aspect of their game and Lewis is for easily 10 times the player Harrison is.

Take away all those dirty big hits Harrison has done over the years and the team he plays for and he wouldn't stand out as much. He has become like the hit stick in Madden games going for the big hit and play every time and it is taking away from the abilities he has.

As for Lewis being better in the Past? From previous comments on other threads Im guessing you are saying Lewis isnt the same player he was? Which again I will disagree with you. Just look at the numbers he put up in 2010. He is still the best linebacker for me, up there with Patrick Willis and fair few youngins behind him. Harrison for me based on 2010 would be outside the Top 10.

No doubt Harrison will be included in that list of best linebackers of all time I never said he wasn't good. I said his nonsense and cheapshots take away from his abilities. Well if he doesn't keep imploding for the next few years anyways. But Lewis will always be 10 times better than him. Lewis has been consistent since 1996 barring injuries of course.

To sum up if you compare their careers and the type of player they are which includes their mentality on the field Ray Lewis is by far the better player.

The stupidest thing about this was that there was obviously an element of forethought that went into it. Like, anyone could say something as stupid as this in the heat of the moment, or if you were ambushed on a TV camera and it was just after a game or something, but to say something like this to a print journalist so long after the SB is just stupid.

I'm no Ben Roethlisberger fan, but Harrison has Big Ben to thank for those SB rings on his fingers (well certainly the second one anyway, even if Roethlisberger was poor in both SB's).

He seems like a strange guy though in every way; the business with refusing to go to the White House after winning the SBs and looking at some of the other things he's come out with.

He is still a teammate. As is RM.

I have no love for Ben but at least wait until you're on another team to air your laundry! It's dumb, selfish, and toxic to your team to run your mouth to the media about people that put on the same jersey as you do.

Saw a stat on twitter that peyton manning threw 12 interceptions in opposition half last year, big ben only threw 3, ben missed some games but not 9 interceptions worth.

Can he be fined for what he says during the lockout ? Leaving out financial penalties, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him traded. How can the Steelers have any sort of team spirit after those comments ? Seems impossible.

Michael Irvin on Total Access spoke about the gay slur. While he didn't slam Harrison, he made some good points

For a fellow who lived the most colourfully heterosexual of lives, and obviously had serious issues with his womanising and partying, nice to see Irvin be so thoughtful and erudite and not live up to the stereotype one might imagine. He has been a champion of gay rights which I suspect might not go down very well in some of the heartlands of American Football, particularly as he starred in Texas.

Honestly, WTF is the point in saying sorry? The attacks were premeditated and thought out, so how the **** can you be sorry if you knew what you were doing. If it was after a game, in the heat of the moment then I could understand, but this clown had to be aware of reprecusions after the fallout, yet still did it and then says sorry?

I would have had more respect for him if he actually stood by what he said. But I suppose we are talking about a guy that threatend to quick football if he got another hitting fine......
