I'm interested 02 320D that's not too far away from me and I'd like to get some opinions on it.

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2262968

What do ye think of the price? Any problems I should look out for in this model? Is it a genuine M Sport or is it too hard to tell from the pictures?

    Cheers lads.

usual problems with these where the swirl flaps beaking and being ingested into the engine and fecking it up... turbos where also a weak point.. other stuff to look at is the suspension, and bushings.. they dont wear very well in them...

I would be weary of theis one... new head, injectors and a re conditioned turbo installed... sounds like it has had serious problems recently in the past (as above)...

I would want soemone who know BMW engines inside out to look at that before i would consider touching it

Cheers Robtri. I'll be bringing a mechanic with me when I view it.

How much would a mint condition 02 320D M Sport usually sell for?

€5200 for that? Is he havin' a giraffe!?!:eek::eek:

Very optimystic asking price indeed.

Easiest way to tell a genuine M Sport from a fake one is have a look at the inside roof lining. M Sport roof lining is usually black in colour, very rare that someone who upgrades their non M Sport would replace the interior roof lining too. You could also run the VIN by a BMW dealer too.

Common problems are the swirl flaps in the manifold which can disintegrate into the engine and destroy it, the turbo on that vintage of 320d is also known for blowing and wasn't really sorted until early 2004 models.

There's better value than that out there OP.
If I was you I'd hold out for the right car rather than buying that. Its over-priced.
As was said make sure you get it thoroughly checked over before you buy. The e46 320d wasn't BMW's best work and there are plenty of lemons out there.

You can pick up a very good condition 320 petrol for around €1500 less and running costs wont be much different. Plus the 2.2 petrol engine would be less trouble than the turbo diesel.

To be fair it's a damn sight cleaner than the OP's interest but that still don't make me understand how you can almost* double the value of a 320 because it's diesel!

*slight exaggeration for effect - but not too far off!

Been looking at some 2004 320d's on DoneDeal so I realise that 5200 is crazy money for the 2002. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction lads.

Are the 2004 models a good buy?

MCMLXXV- 320 Petrol is tempting as well, had my heart set on a diesel though.

Snoogy - were you actually prepared to pay close to €5k for that?

If so I would be looking very closely at this

I was prepared to pay up to 4500. Wasn't really sure what they make or if would be considered a good example.

Thinking I might buy a cheaper petrol like you advised or I might look out for a 2004-2005 320D.

I've had a look at 320's for sale this evening and the diesel asking prices are ridiculous in comparison to petrols!:eek::eek:

Maybe have a look in the UK...cars are better spec'd and generally have less wear and tear. Even adding in the import duty shouldnt break the bank...

I have a Nov 04 320d for the last 18 months and I would certainly recommend it.

Its been a joy to own, pokey enough, averaging about 46mpg over the last 12 months and 30k miles.

From the donedeal advert in the OP
Cruise control, muti functioning wheel, 6 cd changer in boot.... Interior finished in wood it is absolutely spotless!! Car has all

M-sport models have carbon fibre effect trim, not wood trim like in an SE. Also the black headlining, the sport seats and the ///M trims on the door sills should point towards an M-Sport

Carbon trim was an optional extra just like the wood trim was. It was up to the original buyer to either spec wood trim or carbon cube trim. I've seen genuine msports from the factory with carbon, silver, gun metal and wood trim as fitted from BMW Germany.

It's not the colour of the tr pieces that denotes an msport.
