Are you going off the beaten track? If not I wouldn't bother getting the rabies. It's not a vaccine, it only gives you a little bit of extra time to get to a hospital if bitten/scratched by a dog/monkey etc. TMB told me not to bother with it as I was only going to the islands.

Shuffle, prob wont be goin to far off the beaten track. we will prob go to chiang mai, but we dunno if we will do a trek, after that it will prob be another town up the north, pai, it was recommended as a great place, and then down to the islands. If we didnt get rabies that knocks about 100 quid off already, have an appointment made with tmb now so will see what they say i guess. Cheers

Beagle where did u get them for 100 quid? that seems a bit too cheap to be true.

I have been 6 times and have never had a single vaccination but then again I stayed to the main parts i.e Bangkok, Phuket and Koh Samui.

Yeah skip the rabies. If you did get scratched or bitten etc (extremely unlikely) you wouldn't be far from a medical centre with the route your taking. The doctor in TMB was really sound when I went in 2008. He asked my route, explained the vaccinations and then said I could get rabies if I wanted but since my route revolved around the islands it would be a waste of money. It's an expensive jab to get.

Hey, I'm off travelling one of my stops is Thailand...got my jabs in D2 Medical on Fitzwilliam St (just at the corner with Baggot St.) the other day. He said I didn't need rabies or malaria tabs unless going into very rural areas. Got Hep A, Typhoid & a 3in1 Tetanus, Diphteria & Polio. €135 altogether.
