What do people feel land is worth? Good quality land around us in Cork seems to be making anything up to 13500per acre and more in some cases. Does this make sense?

What is land (or anything) worth?
Simple and short answer .....It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

I was out looking at a half acre site last night where the lad was looking for €90,000 for it.

another question you could now add to the mix is what currency do you value it in , im serious , the way things have moved this past few days , will land be valued in PUNTS by year end

What I feel land is actually worth
2k an acre for arable/tillage ground, see France, Germany, Ukraine etc.

Our planning laws have skewed values because any parcel of land
could have development potential at some stage.

The exception to this is forested land which current law states must remain
forested and this is valued at 3kish.

Nearer 8k iirc from the journal a few months ago. British farm land now averaging £6000 or 6800 euro an acre for the first time

Depends where you are in the country, the strength of the neighbours and the quality of the land

You would only get very poor land around here for 6k - good land in the 9-10k bracket

If you thought like that you'd never buy land:D

Spreading the cost over the whole farm can justify it
