    Hey all,

Looking to change to a convertible soon and have been looking at Megane Cabrio's and 307cc's. I'm looking for something around 04 upwards ish, and with a small engine, ie 1.6 or so. Not looking to spend a fortune as I'll only keep it for a year or less. Any ideas or has anyone got a similar car they would recommend or suggest to avoid???

MR2? No price on this one, but they're great looking cars with decent engines imo

My gf is looking for a little mx5 but if it were me I would dare to be different and get an mgf! Something cool and retro about them. I'd make sure it had the updated head gasket in it first though:)

Even my gf wouldn't touch Peugeot or Renault cabrio as she thinks they are not proper as they ain't RWD;)

The s2000 is a much higher performance car, unfortunately you would have to stretch your budget a bit.Insurance might be an issue aswell.

You probably wouldn't get insured at that age to be honest.I could only get quoted by one company and I'm 27 and full NCD

I know I'll get laughed out of it for this but would you consider a mini cabrio ? I know lots of lads aren't secure enough in their sexuality to drive one but by all accounts they are missing out !

Audi TT or BMW 3 series I think would suit you best.
The Audi is only a two seater though.

Neither is going to have a very insurance friendly engine, generally convertibles are relatively high end models so they don't tend to come with really basic engines, plus they are heavier than hardtops so need to compensate.

Search in Carzone with a price limit and picking type of car as convertible and you will get as good a list of suggestions as anyone here will give you.

Convertible sales are seasonal as well, so perhaps you are not choosing the best time to buy, but that can't be helped.

I would look for a 3 series Convertible if I were you, in Silver to contrast with the soft-top :-)
Prices and mileages vary wildly but at least if you know what you want you can focus your search on that

If you are selling on in a year, then you need to try and get something that is likely to shift fairly easily.

An idea of what I mean, though these are not necessarily choice picks

Maybe take a look at sellers who specialise in convertibles,
these guys based in the UK always seem to have nice cars and a lot are not s2000's

So suggesting a Z3M would also be bad.

If you want something cheap and rare enough, look for a Pug 306 Cabrio like this one

Bearing in mind need for 4 seats and difficult insurance position, how about adiesel Saab 9-3. These seem to have been massively overproduced for the UK Market over the last number of years - 40-50% discounts for preplated 100 mileage cars that the residuals on older models must have been badly hit. Ultimately it shares an engine with Tge Vectra which makes it easy to service and maintain. Can't imagine that they sold heavily in Ireland but always seem to be a large number second hand in the UK.

Mate of mine has a 1995 E36 BMW 318i Convertable. Nice car and pretty practical as well. Think he might be looking to sell if you are interested.

9-3 is a great looking car in the metal. A guy at work has one, think it is a high spec model as it has extra body kit, but he's destroyed it off kerbs so its wrecked now. :-(

Might have to budget for some proper SAAB style wheels to replace these alloys
