    hi everyone,
I had to do some electrical work with lights the other day so i turned off the trip switches. when i went to the switchbox i noticed that the bord na mona pump switch was off! i put it back on and decided to monitor it! it seems to flick to off at least once a day which is worrying me.
what does this mean i wonder!
thanks for any advice on this.

more than likely you have a short circuit somewhere - I wouldn't keep switching it back on till you find it!. Best guess would be that the connection to the socket in the pump is probably loose and causing arcing which could potentially be a fire hazard! the same thing happened me with a pump not so long ago - will see if I can upload pics

Is it an MCB tripping or the RCD or an RCBO. Take a photo if you can.

Sorry for jumping in on thread but I have a similar problem, not BNaM PUMP BUT Lidl water pump that every time submerged, trips RCD. Worked fine until last week. Occasional use only. Used only to shift ponding surface water in open hole in garden. Cleaned out the impeller of rope it had sucked in but no joy. Tripped as soon as submerged again.
Any ideas? Or just fit for the bin?

Water is getting into the motor itself and tripping the RCD, a possible cause of the OP problem as well. Them RCD`s are very sensitive to any earth faults, which they need to be to serve their purpose.

How long have you got it?

    About 1.5yrs.
Can it be fixed or safer bin it?

no harm to try and seal up the motor housing with some silicone... would bin it otherwise- you can pick one up for around 30 quid in most diy places like B&Q etc

Probably possible to repair, but it would need to be taken apart and put back together after examining any seals. It could be leaking at the impellor shaft seal, which are probably ceramic seals or similar, although i never looked at them submersible pumps myself.

A new pump might be the easiest option.

thanks for the info there guys, thanks for the pics aswell much appreciated.
So, my solution is to go out to the box in the garden and look for that connection and make sure it is tight? would that be my first step?

fyi, its just the individual BnM pump switch that is getting tripped inside the house but it does not cause any other switch to trip or cause any hassle. i just happened to notice it!

Verify the size of the MCB in the house for the Puraflo
    • 16A for Puraflo Gravity Outlet
    • 20A for Puraflo Pumped Outlet

If it is not correct, you will need to install the correct size MCB. If in doubt contact a qualified electrician to do this for you. Also was there any digging in the line of where the SWA cable was ran out to the panel? It might have got damaged.

If you're still having trouble, send me a pm!

I work with a lot of these submersible type pumps, first of all if your going to replace it with a 30 euro pump from lidl or b&q wont do long term as it will be pimping more than clean water, and as for the tripping i would imagine its not plugged into a socket but wired directly back to a control box or junction box at the puraflow itself. Firstly disconnect the 3 wires from the pump that are connected into the box and reset the trip and see does it trip, if not take up the pump and repair or replace with a sufficient pump.
