    Hi,
I have a commercial 4x4 which I now want to use for private & social purposes. Will I just be able to switch my regular private insurance over from my car and does it still mean that I can pay commercial tax?
    Thanks! :)

You can't. You'll have to pay the correct excise on it to start with, get seats fitted so as to make it a passenger vehicle. Don't forget you'll need a certificate of compliance as well! It's not as easy as you think.

You don't have to have extra seats but you do have to pay private tax.

The problem i've found with insurance is that while you can insure it as your private car after changing the tax class, it still seems to have to do the DOE and not the NCT (which is nuts as it's now classed as a private vehicle) and insurers have bene reluctant to give me a reasonable quote in recent times because they say it's "not doing the proper test".
