Is an Ostrich a term that is used in golf, I know it's a notional term represtenting -5 on a hole but is it a recognised term.

Ostrich. -5 would be a hole in one on a par 6. Its on wikipedia so it has to be true. I 'd doubt it officially recognised given that it would be virtually impossible to hit a hole in one on a par 6.

Don't mind me Gary. I'm a grumpy sarky b*****d in the morning. I thought you were taking the Mick insofar as you can't obviously have a score of -5 on any hole in golf. If you mean is the term used outside of this meaning, I don't know. Nevr heard of it.

    How about a Cuckoo.

Holing a shot in the wrong hole.

Reason I ask is there is a local comp running for 2 nights in Killarney and tickets to the golf.

    Question is as follows.

In golf terms which is better.

    A: Eagle
    B: Albatross
    C: Ostrich

Had never heard of an "Ostrich" but seemingly it is a term to describe a hole in one at a par 6....

Ostrich, in this case is a red herring!

A condor is 4 under par on a hole ;) Ya never know though, wind at the back, downhill, concrete course and the R45.91 superDEduper x Fast XL driver ... on the beer for a month :D

Not sure it is a "red herring", if you google the term as most people will it will come back saying it represents a hole in one on a par6. The fact that it is ridiculas to the extreme does not take from the fact that an Ostrich is better than an Albatross in the context of the question....they could be in diffs here with the question.

    This is like saying:

which is the higher score in tennis?

    1. 15
    2. 30
    3. Orange

A score of 'orange' does not exist in tennis. A score of -5 on a hole does not exist in golf. Ostrich doesn't become a 'term in golf' because someone makes up the notional term. We don't have par sixes. We don't have ostriches. The more pertinent question is who is the git putting the quiz questions together?

Ah their is such a thing as a Par 6, it's just that they are very rare. but they do exist on some courses. Don't think any course in Ireland has one but their are plenty in the US and I know their have been some even played on by the Asian Tour. (St.Andrews Thailand Par 74 7777y)

A Woody is if ya miss the ball with your driver and get a fresh air.

And a Soggy biscuit is when you mark your ball with a biscuit instead of a ball marker.

I think i remember some commentator on the TV saying a hole in one on a par 5 is a double albatross.

Although highley unlikely there is a possiblity of a score of -5 on a par 6 or god forbid to hole out in 2 on the par 7 seventh hole at Satsuki golf course in Japan, 910 yards if I remember correctly

Ok so the OP's question has been answered.

Now I'm off to think up a name for playing 100 9 dart games in a row, winning Wimbledon only serving aces on your own serve and winning the world snooker championship with 19 consecutive frames of 147. It's highly unlikely ... But we need a name for these! Just in case.
