Can we change it?

This my first post here ever. I have read every post here from how to treat sick puppies to how to clean an airsoft mp5! We all have our own interests, our own priorities, our own plans. I am no expert in financials ( any student accountant who has't been corrupted yet can help)

Moody's has been accused of "blackmail". In one example the German insurer Hannover Re was offered a "free rating" by Moody's. The insurer refused. Moody's continued with the "free ratings", but over time lowered its rating of the company. Still refusing Moody's services, Moody's lowered Hannover's debt to junk, and the company in a few hours lost $175 million in market value.[6]
"As the housing market collapsed in late 2007, Moody's Investors Service, whose investment ratings were widely trusted, responded by purging analysts and executives who warned of trouble and promoting those who helped Wall Street plunge the country into its worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. A McClatchy investigation has found that Moody's punished executives who questioned why the company was risking its reputation by putting its profits ahead of providing trustworthy ratings for investment offerings."[7]

As much as I'd love France and Germany to go and $%!&£ what can we really do! Moodys tell us we're junk, can they be be taken to court for corruption?

Maybe if they weren't so moody, they wouldn't downgrade us.

Made up of a few very powerful individuals. Ruination of the world! At least of our part of it anyway!

the same ratings agency that gave AIG a triple-A rating the day before it was bailed out by the US treasury. how they have any credibility after that is just confusing. they should be told to keep their opinions (as that's all they are, some fella's opinions) to themselves.

Possibly in the wrong place! Mods', deal accordingly!

    It's of no importance, really.
Of course our government bonds are junk; they have been ever since our last government and the Minister for Finance of that time decided, whether off his own bat or under pressure from the EU, to make the debt incurred by the Irish banks sovereign debt.
What you have seen since, the 'bail-out', is simply the powers in the EU putting billions through our banks, which are now the responsibilty of the state, in order to pay off the German/French/British banks that lent to our banks.
In other words, our country is actually bailing out their banks, despite the fact that their governments and banks were just as culpable as our government, of the time, and banks, in that they failed to regulate their lending just as our government failed to regulate our banks borrowing.
So our government bonds/Sovereign state are/is junk because anyone with money to invest and a functioning brain realises that we are swamped in ludicrous, unpayable debt and to invest in this country would be throwing their money away.
Anyway, it doesn't really matter: it seems that the whole ponzi-scheme is collapsing, whether by chance, or design.
    Batten down the hatches.

Opinions the rest of us norms get shafted over! Can the government disregard their opinions and borrow eleswere? ( still clueless in state financials)

the ratings agencies don't answer to anyone. watch the movie inside job about the crash stateside. you may need to take something to calm yourself down afterwards though.

The markets don't give a two shits about Moody's ratings, the markets already know we are ****ed and have factored it in.

Ratings agencies are entirely pointless, their chosen role is to turn up after everyone, even the dogs in the street know something and announce it.
No one fucking cares, apart from the talking heads.

This just in: We landed on the moon! \o/

Ever hear of paragraphs? you probably have amazing points in there, but I was gone after 'no importance really'
Either paragraph it, or pop- up-book the shit out of it.

    It's in paragraphs.

I have a technique for situations like this. With a little extra effort it is sometimes possible to pick out the last sentence also, in this case "Batten down the hatches.". It is then possible, by putting the first and last sentence together with the thread title, to have a good stab at working out what the main body of text is probably referring to.

    So:

    Can we change it?

    "It's of no importance, really.

    ?????

    Batten down the hatches."

I conclude that this thread probably refers to a hurricane which is approaching some poor, unimportant third world country but the OP is wondering if we in the West have any advanced scientific techniques to deflect the path of the oncoming storm, eventually coming to the conclusion that even if we did we probably would not spend the money to help this poor, godforsaken island (he probably puts this down to the island having no oil reserves!) and so dejected, he gives that last piece of advice to any natives who may read it.

You have a technique for leaving asinine comments about posts you fail to understand? Clearly.
Go back and read the bit you characterise as ????
It's really not that hard to comprehend.

Edit: having read your post again, properly, i realise you may not have been taking a shot at the substance of my post, just using my post in a humourous response to another poster. I apologise.
Unless i've got it wrong and you were, in fact, taking a shot at my post. In which case, i'd like to reitirate the f*ck you.

Your post? But you didn't make the original post that I was quoting...unless you use the profile "pidgeoneyes" too?

It seemed to me that you quoted my post pretty much exclusively: 'It's of no importance, really', 'batten down the hatches' etc..
Do i use the profile 'pidgeoneyes', too?
Eh, no; i'm afraid ol' 'pidgeoneyes' is his/her own man/woman and free from my guiding hand.
    I wish him/her well.

Ah I see, for some reason I saw your post as the OP's...don't know why. I see now they are completely different. My mistake.
