Tracks that should be in F1.

Obviously this thread is going to mainly be opinion and anyone who disagrees with my choices is wrong. :pac: I'm hoping most suggestions are sensible and there aren't too many fantastical suggestions. :pac: Some suggestions (expecting near-uniformity here) on which tracks to get rid of would be nice too.

    Tracks to add:

I'd love to see Imola come back. It's one of those great old tracks that when you're watching it the odd camera angles make the track not really make sense compared to a map. :pac: They've renovated since the last GP held there and even though it was overseen by Tilke even he hasn't managed to ruin it. :)

A track whose absence makes no sense to me is Portimao. It's got everything fans have been crying out for in the newer tracks with plenty of hills and undulations and any time I watch something else take the final bend I just think how awesome it would be to see an F1 car take that turn.

I would also love to see an all or mainly concrete circuit being used on the calendar. It would be great IMO to see a track with a completely different surface to all the rest once in a while and which would lead to a much different track evolution over the weekend and during the race etc.

    Tracks to ditch:

    Bahrain, don't need it.
    Valencia "street track".
Nurburgring I could go either way. High probability of rain is nearly the only redeeming feature. The other redeeming feature is that ****ty new Hockenheim is the alternative. :pac:
    Abu Dhabi, meh.
Korea isn't really needed IMO, though I'll reserve judgement for a while because while it's unfair to base an opinion on one race it does seem Valencia-esque.

Suggestions I'm expecting and am pre-empting :pac:

    Brands Hatch - Too short.
Laguna Seca - Too short and a wall at the end of a fast bit ain't gonna cut it.

agree on being to short but the safety of the place is pretty good now since Yamaha poured money into it for motogp

Is that wall still there though? Been a coupla years since I've watched anything at the track but I imagine that's enough for it to be a massive no-no anyway.
Also what's this A-1 Ring you speak of? Do you mean the Red Bull Ring? :pac:

theres walls all around the track the only one i can think of being tricky is the one at the top of the cs but even then theres still 20ft of run off

That wall is a lot further away at the start of the Rahal Straight alright. Still don't think they'd fancy the wall at the CS though.

The a1 ring was complete pants IMO and muggelo is basically a Ferrari home track

    I liked A-1 ring

I'd like to see the old Hockenheim back, not the old old one, the one they had in the 90's

Love the chicane in Laguna Seca, that sounds strange saying you like a chicane. A track to be considered

I've seen feck all of Mugello tbh other than playing it in video games and it's one of my least favorite in Forza.

It would be epic to see F1 cars trying to make their way around that course a full race distance.

One not mentioned yet I would like to see back would be Watkins Glen. Its been 31 years since F1 was last there & it would be nice to see it back. Hamilton actually turned up there a few weeks ago, I beleive.

Straight off the bat if I was making a calendar for F1 with no real constraints but still bows to certain pressures:

The season opening in Australia is a favorite with everyone but I would, much against the grain of most fans, drop Albert Park and move the race to Philip Island. Victoria would keep the race, Melbourne keep a lot of trade but F1 would race on one of the worlds greatest tracks.
From Australia the season would move to Malaysia and Sepang. Its far from a classic track and fans dont come out in force but Malaysia brings in a lot of money to the sport so it has to keep its place on the calendar before F1 heads to China for round three.
After three fly away races it is time for the sport to head back to Europe and Spain. Barcelona is firmly entrenched with the Spanish GP but personally I would like to see the race move around various tracks with a constant rotation of Barcelona, Jerez and Aragon used.
I would then bring the San Marino Grand Prix back but it would be even more of a misomer than when Imola hosted the race because I would have it hosted by Mugello. I love the track with so many fast corners and the long front straight would be perfect for DRS.
After that I would have back to back races with Pau hosting F1 with the F3 race and WTCC on the undercard before teams drive to Monaco on the Monday in prep for the Monaco GP. The good thing about this would be that the race tracks are so close that it wouldnt be a strenuous back to back trip for back to back races.
After Monaco I would love, and my bike roots are starting to show here!, if F1 went to Assen(preferably the old Assen.)
After that we would have to head across to North America so Montreal would obviously be included along with the Pacific Coast GP that would alternate between Laguna Seca and Long Beach. The way that I look at it is that dispensations are made for Monaco to be included on the calendar so why not with Laguna? It meets the highest circuit specifications and is a fantastic circuit. It is a bit on the short side but as I said Monaco gets allowences so I'm willing to give Laguna the chance as well! I would alternate it wih Long Beach because it is a classic venue and a challenging street circuit.
After the trip across the Atantic F1 would head to Silverstone for the British GP before the German GP which would be hosted by the old Hockenheim because there is such a need for variety on the calendar which the old circuit produced. With that out of the question I would say that the best thing is just to continue alternating between Hockenheim and the Nurburgring.
With England housing so many teams I think that it would be great to have a second race there with Brands Hatch my ideal location. The GP track is absolutely stunning and there has been a lot of work carried out to improve facilities. The track already hosts F2 and numerous other classes so it should be able to meet the safety requirements of F1 to host the European Grand Prix.
Spa is the only place to host the Belgium Grand Prix and would obviously be on anyones calendar. Monza is the same although I would prefer if they changed the opening chicane to its old format.
The season would end with five fly away races with Austin, Texas the first of these at the new Circuit of the Americas. Obviously I dont know what the track will be like when its finished but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for now with Road America able to stand in for this race if the track fails to deliver. I have America this late in the calendar because the thoughts of Texas weather in July is already making me uncomfortable-not really sure why BErnie wants to put the race on in the middle of the summer but thats his call.
Singapore is a fantastic city state and defintely adds something to the calendar so it will remain with Abu Dhabi hosting round 18. I know that the circuit isnt popular but the money from the Gulf country is exceptionally popular with the teams and the FOM so there needs to be a race in the region and given the choice of Abu Dhani, Bahrain or Qatar I choose the one with the shiny hotel!
Suzuka is a classic F1 venue and will host the penultimate race of my calendar with Interlagos hosting a pulsating championship decider of my 20 round season,

    1. Australia-Philip Island
    2. Malaysia-Sepang
    3. China-Shanghai
    4. Spain-Barcelona, Jerez and Aragon
    5. San Marino-Mugello
    6. France-Pau
    7. Monaco
    8. Holland-Assen
    9. Canada-Montreal
    10. Pacific Coast-Laguna Seca and Long Beach
    11. Britain-Silverstone
    12. Germany-Hockenheim and the Nurbugring
    13. Europe-Brands Hatch
    14. Belgium-Spa
    15. Italy-Monza
    16. America-Austin
    17. Singapore-Singapore
    18. UAE-Abu Dhabi
    19. Japan-Suzuka
    20. Brazil-Interlagos

id love to see a F1 race at Daytona or Talladega, I know it would be too dangerous but still!

as for the former F1 tracks id like to see the French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours return and the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring

    OK excellent thread!

F1 needs to be vicious at the moment and get rid of the dead wood.

    My calender would look like

    Albert Park
Malaysia (not a bad track - but they hold the race during the rainy season so we usually have great conditions)
Turkey - the only OK Tilke track (and its only Ok - if crowds dont improve I would give it the boot)
Monaco -personally I dont see the attraction but I suppose you cant get rid of it
Indiannapolis - Yes its got a terrible in section but one hell of a straight, one hell of a final corner and there used to be a lot of over taking. What with the new tyres, kers etc I think this would make an excellent Grand Prix.
Canada - An essential Grand Prix. Simply one of the classics. Montreal that is
Mexico - For those too young to remember this was an excellent test. Rumours its coming back. The altitude, the bumps, layout all made for a great GP.
Dijon - France should have a Grand Prix but Magny Cours was terrible. From what I can remember of it Dijon was stupendous and it was the scene of that titanic battle between Villieneve and Arnoux.
Le Mans (European Grand Prix) - I cant see why not? Even if the track needs to be modified or shortened for a Formula 1 race on a temporary basis.
    Hungary
Imola (Swiss Grand Prix) - It has bad memories but it is a great race track
Belgian GP - Simply another classic at Spa
    Italian Grand Prix - Monza
    Watkins Glen
Korea - Included but holding judgement
    Singapore
Japanese - Suzuka again another classic
Brazilian - interlagos again another classic

    Maybe
Silverstone - A GP that never delivers. The present layout is a flat featureless bore, always has been, always will. No matter what the BBC say. Sorry GP fans!
I am also in favour of a rotating S. American GP across a number of countries and a rotating GP across a number of Asian /Pacific countries starting with Aida in japan for instance.

I would put the Indian GP into the calendar but if it does not deliver drop it.

I havent included a German GP but I would if the Nurburgring would get its act together and include part of the old circuit (not all).

I think 20/21 GP per season is enough.

If I had my way I would drop The Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, valencia, Spanish and move the British.

If the clock could be wound back I'd love to see modern F1 cars on the old osterreichring. +1 for bringing back Imola, brilliant track. And of course I wouldn't say no to seeing Mondello join the calendar! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,242 ✭✭✭vincenzolorenzo

Tough going in any car alright. DRS zone down the straight into Shell. Ah sure we can always dream!

Back on topic: Would love to see F1 back around Zandvoort too. Its a track that would require big investment to get the infrastructure right but in terms of the track layout itself, there are some brilliant fast sweepers.

definately plus 1 vote for old nurburgring!:D
I would axe the hungaroring! its always a borefest with no overtaking with no possibility of rain...ever...receipe for disaster IMO
also the spanish gp, valencia and bahrain need to go..
I would be keen on keeping Abu Dhabi and korea TBH
Pity somebody wouldnt give mondello park a spruce up!...

The thing with Abu Dhabi is that its just shiny and new and often that has been the problem with F1 recently they have just gone for style over substance. The final race of last season was a real let down. No overtaking despite the huge prize on offer - the world championship.

Korea does have more potential though. The barriers are much closer to the track and make a mistake and thats it you are gone. It will be interesting to see what kind of GP we have there this year.

I just cant understand why every new track or upgrade has to be overseen by the same man - Tilke. Madness. You need some variation and new ideas. Imagine living in a city where everything was designed by the same architect.

Frostie nice calendar you have there.

I dont dislike any track particularly so theres just too many tracks on the world. Rotation would be needed between the tracks in the same geographical area.

What about they start parallel series in form of "eF1" using only electric F1 cars? and they hold the races the same weekends as petrol F1 but on another track within same country? :pac:

I always liked Indiannapolis GP but tbh i like them all :D All i want is cars on track, speed and overtaking :D

These could be classed as fantasy Rouen or the old long Spa layout.

Ah should have mentioned. If Argentina did have a track back in F1, I'd go with Potrero!

Would be amazing to see F1 cars in those sweeping turns, amazing track
