    Hi

    I bought a taylor guitar a couple a years ago & I love it :)

I recall at the time the guy in the shop said he could put a pick up into it for me again in the future if I so wished

I'd love to have this done to bring my guitar playing to another level

Has anyone any advice about getting this done? Is it a good idea or should I have got a guitar with a pick up in it at the start?

    Thanks - Appreciate it :)

I don't see how getting a pick up put into what I'm assuming is an acoustic guitar will help bring your playing level up. Getting a pick up retro-fitted is great if you want to gig and plug your acoustic into an amp to make it louder.

If you want to play electric guitar music (blues, rock, punk, metal, etc...) then you should buy an electric guitar. :)

What make of Taylor? I did it to a Big Baby Taylor. I got Derrick Nelson in Marley Park to do it. He did a class job and it sounded good through an amp but it was very problematic through a PA. He put a Fishman in. Originally I wanted a Piazo but there was some reason why the Piazo was unsuitable. I think the procedure cost me about €190 or so, maybe less I can't remember exactly. It worked ok but I traded up to a 110CE after about six months.

    +1 on this.

A pickup in your acoustic guitar will not turn it into an electric guitar; it will simply make your guitar louder when you plug it into an amplifier. Granted you could use effects and all that stuff, but in all honesty most people don't have anything except an EQ between the guitar and the amp when playing acoustic through an amp.

If you want to play electric guitar, the only way to do so is to buy an electric guitar and amplifier.

I would go for either a Seymour Duncan Dtar or fishman matrix infinity or elipse. If you buy the pickup in a shop most will have a good tech that will install it for you. Generaly it will not cost much if anything if you buy the pickup from them.
