I had this trouble once, found out I left the wife in the boot, unlike our Lab she was not happy to see me when I let her out.

    (sorry I'll get my coat)

I got my timing belt done before, few days later the piping fell off made a hell of a noise plus was down in power because of it....

Intercooler pipe on a diesel car was it?

Is it matched to engine speed, or road speed? Could be gearbox or differential whining.

Fcuked, or need a new gearbox? The two are not mutually inclusive. Unless you are in the middle of the sahara, being chased by some lost Taliban types.
To the OP, perhaps your transfer box is knackered? Or, when they servced your jeep they forgot to put the oily stuff back into a bit that needs it?? Not unheard of.

I reckon it needs a mechanic to view it but it sounds like gearbox, transfer box or differential problem.

If it is one of the three it will be costly but it needs a proper diagnosis

Just in case, also worth keeping in mind basics like alternator and pulley bearings, perhaps even a wheel bearing.

All the real motors heads are going to think I'm a muppet but....

Are you by any chance using a tape to mp3 thing or anything that links your mp3 to cigarette lighter and into stereo. This happened me not so long ago and it wrecked my head.

I was charging the iphone and had an mp3 tape convertor and it whined when i accelerated.

    Maybe it's simple.

Planned obsolescense feature of the automatic gearbox has kicked in. Only option is to buy a new gearbox

Had Mechanic up the road get in & listen to noise & he says its definately the back right bearing that is causing the whining noise - so Jeep is going back to garage who replaced the bloody thing 2wks ago!!!
