Digital tv conflicts with satellite receiver

I have a Philips 8605 tv, digital aerial plugged in, satellite receiver (Blade) connected using HDMI.
Terrestrial digital tv works perfectly when tv alone is switched on but when I turn on the satellite receiver the picture quality deteriorates a lot.
Any ideas why this might be happening?
    Thanks

Is the terrestrial signal being looped through the satellite box?

no, digital terrestrial is directly into tv

    Is it an indoor aerial?

Does using a scart connection for the sat. box make any difference?

Noisy switched mode power supply on the satellite box I'd imagine. Can you plug it in to a socket further away? Does it use a transformer plug or is it a figure of 8 cable in to the box?

There's no need for a "high quality" HDMI lead, btw. The cheapest one in Tesco gives an identical picture to the most expensive snakeoil Currys will sell you on a satellite box.

Thanks MYOB, its a figure of 8 cable into the box. Tried plugging it in to a different socket (different circuit also) but no joy, signal still broken up.
Might just have to continue switching off the sat box when I want to watch rte, which isn't that often, but a bit annoying.
Btw, the high quality hdmi is for 3d tv, bought it off ebay, not that expensive!

Can you look at the signal strength/quality for one of the DTT channels, and let us know what the approx values are, for when the sat box is off, and when it is on?

If it's close to the minimum necessary then any extra interference might tip it the wrong way.

Do you have anything with a modulator to send tv pictures to another room along a coax?

I had a similar problem with dtt picture freezing when satellite receiver was switched on. Turned out to be a faulty combiner in the attic that was being used to feed the satellite and DTT signal into one down lead. I think the lnb voltage was making its way back into the UHF input on the telly. Changed the combiner and all was good. Hopefully that helps you or other Boardies with a similar problem.

Remove the HDMI lead & see if that has any effect, they've been known to radiate interference.

Also, as posted above, dodgy diplexers or multiswitches can allow LNB noise onto the terrestrial signal.
