Why Has Pepcid Been Taken Off The Shelves?

No matter where I look for Pepcid 2, it can't be got. A pharmacist said today that I won't get it anywhere but couldn't or wouldn't give further details.

So tonight I googled it briefly and I found messageboards all over the World asking the same question. So it's everywhere.

Is there a pharmacist or anyone here who might know why Pepcid has been pulled and why it's withdrawal his got no publicity?

There are other things one can use instead. But the point is I've been using Pepcid for years and recently have had some funny symptoms possibly consistent with Diverticulitis but probably not - and if Pepcid has been doin stuff to me, I'm entitled to know and I want to know!

Hey laois man, I'm a pharmacist in cork and have seen it in many different pharmacies around the area. There was no product recall or withdrawal as far as I'm aware.

    Thanks for your answer.

Just to prove I'm not mad, there's loads of sites with people from the US asking the same questions as me - which you will find if you google something like "Pepcid Unavailable".

    For example....

    http://www.healthcentral.com/acid-reflux/c/question/570347/122055/

The e-mail they sent back to someone on this messagboard looks a bit dodgy - using the excuse of being "challenged on product supply due to production challenges as well as the transition to new labels". and how the "expect to have PEPCID® products back in the stores for some codes by November 2010".

It's July 2011 and I can't get it anywhere! Cork must be one of the chosen few :D

Looks awfully suspect - but it's good to know it hasn't been pulled anyway.

The pharma company Johnson and Johnson has been having a horrendous run of manufacturing issues with its OTC products, marketed by its McNeil division, including Pepcid. The FDA are all over them and there have been masses of product recalls in the US. I suspect the issues you have been reading about relates to the US market.

I'm a pharmacist in cork, we ran out of it in may and haven't been able to get any in since! Bleg is obviously hoarding it! :p

Latest update from our wholesaler is that it's gone into short supply and they're not expecting it back in until november at the earliest but it could be january. That's probably what the pharmacist you spoke to meant by you'd be lucky to get it anywhere, as the wholesalers are out of it. If I was you I'd phone around pharmacies and check who might have stock left. Haven't a clue as to the reason for the short supply, I've given up asking as it's happening so often lately
