Hey guys, I'm looking for some interview advice. I've been offered an interview for a switchboard operator position in a very big company. It's a really good opportunity for me as I've only really done retail work before, and this is a much better, permanent position, a hell of a lot better than the job I'm in now.

However, I've never done an interview for a more professional position like this and so have no idea what to expect. The role requires computer and IT knowledge, which I have as I moderate a social networking site with over 2 million members and co-own a forum based site with over 10,000 members. I have no real idea how to convey this though, or even how to answer questions on the spot.

Any ideas as to what kind of questions I should be expecting? And ways of answering questions that are on the spot/unexpected? I can think on my feet but tend to stumble over my words when I'm stuck and I don't want to look like an idiot :p

Sorry for the long post, and thanks for any advice :)

    Maybe use something like KLARDOC.

Not specifically designed for interview question but principles the same.

    KLARDOC.
    K - Keep calm.
L - Listen carefully so you really understand their point.
    A - Acknowledge what they've said.
    D - Define.
O- Overturn in your case this will be to demonstrate an example from your experience in answering the question.
    C- Close.

Best of luck...relax, be yourself and you will be fine.

Write out all the potential questions that they can ask you. Then write out all the answers to the questions. Refine, mould and reshape the answers to suit your own personal style, language etc. Learn off in front of the mirror.

    Practise, practise, practise.

Wow , I though the advent of the Digital / PBX switch meant that switchboard operators had ceased to exist. Learn something new every day.
