hi, I'm interested in starting to sell some things, CDs and so on, on ebay. Is it really worth it? Exactly what are their charges, is it 50 cent per item and them 10% fee on top of that. So, if I sold an item for €5 would they charge me around €1 to do this.

Does the final fee include post and packaging as well?

    Thanks,
    Coburger

if you list an item on an auction starting at 1.49e or less, there is no insertion fee.

not sure about the buyitnow insertion fees

final value fee is 10% of what the auction is won at, so if an auction won for 2e, you will have to pay ebay 20cent of that.

the final value fee does not consider the p&p charges.

also, be aware of paypal fees, not sure what %they are, but say if you get a payment into your paypal account for 5ewhich included what the item sold at plus postage, paypal will take a % of all of that including what you get for p&p.

There's only one way to find out about eBay and that is to sign up and try it like the rest of us have. You learn by experience and no amount of advice that you will get here is a substitute for that. One thing you will need before you start selling is a bit of positive feedback and that is got by buying. You don't have to go mad, but buy 10 or 20 different items just to get some positive feedback as nobody likes buying from newbies on eBay. By the way, welcome to the Boards. :D

Useful information about fees here: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/fees.html

Thanks for the replies. Would anyone recommend ebay over amazon or the other way around? Thanks, Coburger

Chalk and cheese - one is an auction site and the other a 'buy it at a fixed price' site. I buy from both but only sell on eBay. :)

i dont think selling cd's or dvd's is worth it for us because the postage to the UK is too high, unless you get a really good price.
i bought a leather jacket for £20 and sold it on for £80 but ive also sold kids t-shirts for 0.99 cent . I try to sell enough to fund my purchasing!
Once bought a pair of shoes that were impossible to walk in and sold them on for a small profit. Those shoes were still being bought and sold months later :D

Selling Cd's on eBay might just help you to build up positive feedback and you may go on to better things .

Make sure that you mention in the listing that the CD's are genuine/original and also take your own photo of the CD .

Mention the condition of the CD and there is no point in selling ones that are scratched .

A CD should be posted as a ' large envelope ' and therefore cost € 0.95 within Ireland and €1.50 to UK .

Postage & Packing costs are not included in final value fees , which is why some eBayers increase the cost of P & P and accept a lower selling price .

Without a UK address, you can't sell on Amazon.

Amazon are useless, they don't like it if you put your prices lower then their's.

A CD in a jewel case in a small padded envelope is €3 postage to UK.
