I had my 400D stolen while travelling. In sorting out my insurance, I'm trying to work out what the current equivalent for a kit is now. Also, I can't remember what it cost me in 2008.

There's a 600D out at the minute. If not, it can't far away from replacing the 550D

The 400D was around £400 (UK) from Argos in 2008. I would guess that puts
it somewhere around €500 or perhaps a bit more.

The camera with the most similar features to the 400D is the 1000D

The closest price match is probably the 1100D

The current xxxD model is the 600D

Will the insurance company give new-for-old or will they just pay the replacement
value of a three year old 400D?

I think i read somewhere that the 600d is is set to replace the 500d, and the 550d will be around another little while.

dont forget to factor in the exchange rate at the time (2008) ....round it up ... so camera should be €600ish ;)

The euro was quite strong against the pound in 2008. It came very close
to unity at the end of the year.

So are you all agreed that the 400D equivalent on the market today is the 1000D? Because at the same time, its place within the XXXXD and XXXD range puts it at at least 500/550D and possibly 600D.

Plus, while features are one thing, build is another. Simply, the 400D is more sturdy than the 1000D, implying, again, its closeness to the XXXD cameras.

If I was you, I would say that the 600D or 550D is the current xxxD and therefore
the current equivalent of the 400D. I'll have €600-700 please.

If I was your insurer, I'd say 1000D, same price, same features,
so you can take €400 and eff off. They might put it a little more
    politely than that.

    The 400D belongs in the 350D, <400D>, 450D, 500D, 550D, 600D line.

    The 1000D, 1100D are a different line.

An insurer should pay you the value of a 3 year old 400D.
