    Hey,
For whatever reason, my phone has stopped syncing with gmail. It hasn't refreshed the mails in a couple of days now. When I try and do it manually, it doesn't update them either.

I go in to Accounts and try sync in there, and a little message pops up very briefly saying Sync is not available but it will be back shortly.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Thanks v.much

Have you tried updated Gmail from the market? Might help.

This happened to me recently and it turned out it was caused by me having filled up the internal storage on the phone.

Do you have the "low storage" icon in your notification bar?

If so, try to delete one or two apps you don't need and clear all the caches of remaining apps. That worked for me.

I have the most up to date version of Gmail, and I have plenty of internal storage...unfortunately they don't seem to be the issue :(

I decided to do an 'ol uninstall and reinstall and it seemed to have worked. Probably should have done so before starting this thread :o

    Thanks for the help everyone!

If Gmail stops synching on you, or is sluggish, just do the following:

    1. Firstly turn off Sync on the Android. Do this from the Home Screen: Menu -> Settings -> Accounts & Sync -> Turn "Auto Sync" to OFF

    2. Wipe the existing Gmail Entries from the Android. Again, From the home screen: Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Click on the "All" tab -> Select "Gmail" and then "Clear Data"

    3. Lastly, turn Sync back on. Menu -> Settings -> Accounts & Sync -> Turn "Auto Sync" to ON

The Android will now completely resync against Gmail and this will fix the problem for you.

im using a leedroid rom a2sd version and had awful trouble syncing lately. turned out it was low internal memory (12mb), once i uninstalled some apps it synced straight away. need to sort it though and havent come across a solution on which ext i need to increase (and a possible how to)

I use SD Watch - it tells me if any newly downloaded apps can be moved from internal memory to the USB memory

i have a similar program but to my limited knowledge i shouldnt have to do this at all and it should deal with such requests automatically. When i get some time ill look into as its driving me mad worrying about whether i can update programs or if the sync will lock up again

Android will save all newly installed applications to the internal memory. So it's definitely worth going through the app list and seeing what can you move to free up memory.

As a rule of thumb, system apps (gmail, maps, youtube etc) can't be moved off the internal memory of a non-rooted phone but everything else can.

well with a2sd the programs are installed to ext3 of the sd card (although some portions of the program have to be installed to internal memory to prevent issues)

I thought the gmail sync issue was sorted on my HTC HD after clearing gmail cache, but no - still not syncing automatically and I have 600mb free memory on the phone
