    Hi All

Just started running this year and have been doing 5 and 10k races and also Tris / Aquas and Duathlons too.

So i was thinking of doing a Marathon in Oct a few months back but was advised here against it so decided was a better idea to do the half in Sept and then a full marathon next year. Gives me alot more training to do seeing as i only started running this year.

I was thinking of Either Connemara in April or Belfast in May, what would people recommend, i dont want to wait longer than either of these as plan on spending the winter training for them, is either one easier than the other?

Also is it just the 4 marathons a year in Ireland, Connemara, Belfast, Cork and Dublin?

    Thanks

Have a look on the events page and you will see loads of Marathons.

There were Marathons bthis year in Limerick, Kildare, Longford, Dingle, Galway and Newry
and probably more that I have not heard of.

    April Connemara
    May Limerick
    May Belfast
    May Kildare
    May Burren
    May Newry
    June Cork
    June Mourne Way
    June Portumna
    August Longford
    August Galway
    September Dingle
    September Cliffs of Moher
    September Mooathon
    October Causeway Coast
    October Dublin
    November Sixmilebridge marathon
November Waterford (Is this one happening?)
    December Clonakilty

I've purposely left out one the second last weekend in July in Roscommon. :pac: There are a few more, the sixmilebridge series that happened this year and the west of Ireland series, think that list covers most of them though...

Make sure to allow for holidays etc when picking a race - the marathon is pretty unforgiving, especially if for example you took 2 weeks off your training to go boozing with the lads. To do it right you need to commit to the training for the guts of 4 months. People often don't realise how big an ask marathon training is - be aware of what you're signing up for!

Yeah im not a big drinker and am married so a long time since i went boozing for two weeks with friends :D

I reckon the Connemara or the Kildare one will both suit me so ill take a look at them for a starting point.

Connemara is beautiful - but there is quite a challenging climb in the final miles that seems to go on forever. I would perhaps look for a flatter one for your first. Or maybe you relish the challenge? Belfast Marathon is also surprisingly hilly as you go through West Belfast.

Just in case it makes a difference to you - Kildare is flat, Connemara isn't.
Stating the obvious, but relevant in the case of choosing a marathon venue

No, I edited mine to attempt to make it look like I'd done it myself :D and to edit out the WoI series/ultras/sh*t races in Roscommon which aren't really suitable for first timers...

What is it with these facebook kids, they can't take a compliment?!

Cards on the table, you are really cute looking, not to mention your generating massive positive vibes for this forum. I like your energy anytime I've met you, long may it continue. Any man who passes you by, is only excused by being in a race, or being a fool. Or blind.

No insult meant, I don't know how clearer I can be clearer without a divorce.

There is actually a 15 miler on October 2nd which might suit if not ready for the full Marathon. Cork - Cobh. Info can be found on www.corkbhaa.com
