    Hi all,

Travelling from Dublin to Rosslare on Thursday to catch the 4pm ferry to Roscoff and would like to grab a big lunch around 2pm in Enniscorthy or somewhere between Enniscorthy and Rosslare. There will be 2 adults and 2 kids (10 and 6) and the idea is to have a good big feed so we won't need dinner on the ferry.

    Any suggestions where to eat?

    Ben

Not too sure of places in Enniscorthy but a few in Wexford worth a visit. Between E'corthy and Wx the Ferrycarrig Hotel, in Wx itself Taste Restaurant is nice (although if you follow the Rosslare signs from E'corthy you will not be going through Wx town itself). Another couple between Wx and the harbour are Coopers Inn in Killinick and the Kilrane Inn (last village before the harbour). Both latter as you might guess are pubs but nice grub.

An unusual departure might be Wx Golf Club. Phelim Byrne, TV chef, does the catering and anything I have had so far from him is excellent. Being a golf club food is served all day.

    Enjoy the trip.

Great suggestions Mongarra, much appreicated. A lot will depend on whether we get away on time and have the luxury of being able to have a leisurely lunch or are rushing to make the departure time - as usual!!!

The Ferrycarrig Hotel is good, and is on the N11, so easy to find.

In Rosslare Harbour, in sight of the Ferryport, you have the Harbour View: choice of dining room or very good bar menu.

When Herself is travelling with me, there is pressure to use Enoteca d'Alba in Enniscorthy: it's a favourite with her.

Thanks P, no doubt it's a good recommendation but with kids I think I'll stick to Coopers or the Kilrane Inn.

BTW, where (if anywhere) would you recommend we stop to stock up on fresh sandwiches and salads to bring onto the boat?? I'd like to get something fresh close to boarding so it won't be manky when we want to eat again at 8pm.

There's a Mace just past the Kilrane Inn which looks busy but I've never been into it. Failing a recommendation to the contrary I think we'll take our chance with that.

    Cheers,

    Ben

The food on the boat was decent when I took it a year ago (to Cherbourg.) No more expensive than you would pay in Ireland either. Worth bearing in mind if you are in a rush.

There is a Spar or similar just at the top of the hill up from the ferry port.

I'd concur on these, both serve good food at reasonable enough prices.

If you are travelling on Irish Ferries the quality of food on there is good as well. I'm travelling to Cherbourg with them along with the missus and the kid on Saturday and we plan to get a nice dinner on the boat with a snack before hand probably in the Harbour View.

There is quite a large Supervalu just before the ferry port which have a deli but not sure what time they close at. But you could just buy the salads and a loaf of bread and make it on-board.
