    Hi Folks,

I'm wondering about IM races, having survived the first one. Has anyone here done frankfurt? I'm mostly interested in the bike course, I've seen photos with cobbled sections and heard reference to a lot of 90degree turns on it; how technical is it? Austria was all rolling with a few little hills and only a couple of sharp turns. I'm curious how they stack up.. if I go for an "easy" course I want somewhere I can still clock a decent time, and cycling is still my limiter.

OTOH.... there is lanzarote, where I dont think there is a PB but there is a hell of a day out ;)

    What would you do next?

If it's not the IM brand you are after i would highly recommend Challenge Barcelona. Fast course and the bike times can be good not to mention it is easy/cheap to get to.

Roth is a great race and along with Nice the daddy of IM in Europe.

Logistics are a bit of a pain - but super day out.

Can also recommend IM CH in Zurich - nice course and logistically, very easy.

Another IM???? That doesn't make sense. You've done an IM therefore conquered the distance and the next step has to be a longer event. Step up to a double and eventually work your way up to a deca. Remember longer is better.

(have done Austria, doing Frankfurt will let you know)

The cobbles in Frankfurt is a very short section. No technical descending or corners so a great option of cycling is the limited. Because of the lake, you need to be prepared for a non wetsuit swim. I've done it twice and really enjoyed it.

My training plan for the deca says I should do a few IM races in preparation about 8 weeks out from the main event, just to add a bit of intensity to the training ;)

On a more serious note some folk met the Timex sponsored guy in Austria that does one IM a month on average... hes at something like 70+ races done to date. Some he races, but most he walks the marathon in to avoid a long recovery.

    hey,

Re - Bike course at IM germany - yeah the cobbles are a pain - its only for a short section and on one of the hills with the crowds so it goes quickly - just have all bottles strapped down well especially the front one if using one. Overall a great race.

One thing [ besides looking at the course]when deciding which race is to also look at the logistics - public transport or car rental and also price some of the hotels are these can really be expensive for some races when there is always a shortage.

Other advise - book your flight and bike asap once entered.

    trihead:)

Hmm, just signed up... there goes another 6 months :D

Out of curiosity, do any of the IM races have a marathon that's not laps but a single loop?

Non-IM branded, but Roth is technically a single loop (out and back)....
