Shipping a bike from England to Ireland?

    Hello all,

I recently purchased a nice little single speed on ebay, the only hitch is thats pick up only from England. Anyone have any advice as to the cheapest/best way to get it to Ireland safely? Ie couriers and the like. I've seen threads like this, but nothing specifically for bikes. Maybe I'm not searching hard enough.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Try Gaelforce he is a one man operator who travels over and back most weeks - do a search on danny gallagher gaelforce and select his linkedin profile - you'll get his contact details that way.

Copy pasted from another thread that I just commented on:

I've used www.freightquote.ie several times in the past and have been very happy with the service.
It has been for pick up in the UK also, but i'm sure they'll quote for the other way also.
You'll have a locally sourced rep who'll deal with any issues or mixups and the quotes have been very competitive in my experience.
You should be able to get a number of quotes online and pick the one that suits

    Have no affiliation with them

If a bike is advertised as 'collection only' on ebay then don't buy it unless you intend to collect it. The seller might not have wanted to pack it up and the courier won't do this for you (not properly anyway). You probably ought to cancel the sale and apologise profusely to the seller.

Absolutely, - make sure the buyer is agreeable to boxing the bike.
"Collection only" doesn't usually mean via courier, so make sure they are agreeable to boxing etc. first.

You'll also need to get the weight and dimensions of the box from them for the courier for an accurate quote.

    Hi all
    Bought a bike on ebay.
Had to be collected by buyer, not wrapped or boxed.
Was worried about getting it home safe.

I wanted to speak directly to the van driver that would be picking it up.
    By God i found him.

    Contact Danny Gallagher 086 3730080.

    One man operation. Great service.
My courier for the future :)

    Hello,

I know it was a long time ago but do you mind me knowing what it cost to post the bike?

    Thanks

I never actually posted a bike I was just recommending someone I had used. Danny wknt rob you and will try and do your pickup and dropoff in conjunction with otherloads. He might take a week or a month. Gaelforce.

Have you thought of making a weekend of it and use ryanair or a ferry.

    Good luck

I did it before (a few years ago now) and I think it was about 50 odd euro.
You should be able to get quotes if you google around. Unfortunately I can't remember the sites I used for getting quotes.

    Thanks guys.

My bike to work is up in January - 5 years but in some cases its cheaper to buy abroad even with BTW.

    http://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/agree-gtc-slt-di2-compact-carbon-n-blue-11063
    €1899

    http://www.theedge-sports.com/store/product/63722/Cube-Agree-GTC-Di2-SLT-2013/
    €2700

Rip off republic, inflating prices due to BTW.

Sorry for going off on a tangent :)

Sai and rail to anywhere in the UK is approx 40euro each way, can collect yourself but it is a full day gone to do it.
