    Glasson Golf and Country Club:

Hole 1 - 350 yds Par 4 Index 8 - tee shot is slighty uphill, second is slighty down hill to green with bunker on left handside.
Hole 2 - 491 yds Par 5 Index 13 - tee shot is again slighty uphill, unless your a big hitter this is a three shotter. Cant see green with second shot so walk up and have a look. Two bunkers to front of green left and right.
Hole 3 - 175 yds Par 3 Index 7 - lovely hole. It plays a club more uphill, hitting straight at Lough Ree, bunkers left and rite of green.
Hole 4 - 368 yds Par 4 Index 5 - dogleg left, avoid fairway bunkers, second plays uphill to sloping back to front green.
Hole 5 - 158 yds Par 3 Index 11 - plays downhill to a green set among the trees.
Hole 6 - 498 yds Par 5 Index 12 - get your tee shot over the hill and you can reach in two here, pond to right of green and one over the green for anythin long.
Hole 7 - 357 yds Par 4 Index 2 - dogleg rite to left and plays all the way uphill, plays longer than yardage on the card.
Hole 8 - 387 yds Par 4 Index 14 - dogleg rite to left downhill, 3 wood off the tee will leave an 8 iron to green set into pond, water rite of green that tilts back to front.
Hole 9 - 338 yds Par 4 Index 10 - uphill par 4, fairway bunkers in play off tee so try avoid, second plays uphill to green.
Hole 10 - 476 yds Par 5 Index 18 - plays down hill from tee and uphill for second, hole plays left to rite and in reach in two with good tee shot.
Hole 11 - 156 yds Par 3 Index 17 - plays bit uphill with bunkers front and rite.
Hole 12 - 374 yds Par 4 Index 9 - 90 degree dogleg to left, play to black and white post in middle of fairway, 3 wood is plenty off tee to a downhill second shot with bunkers all around the green.
Hole 13 - 323 yds Par 4 Index 3 - 3 wood again off the tee is loads, second is uphill slighty, STAY to rite of the flag. Seriously quick green above the flag.
Hole 14 - 523 yds Par 5 Index 15 - hole plays downhill, keep it straight here off tee, go rite and its out of bounds. fairway feeds downhill for tee shot, water to rite in play for second shot.
Hole 15 - 127 yds Par 3 Index 4 - only wedge/9 iron in calm day, if wind is coming in off Lough Ree it can lay a far bigger club. Lovely hole.
Hole 16 - 376 yds Par 4 Index 1 - uphill all the way, long hole, second shot is uphill to green well above you, green falls front to back.
Hole 17 - 495 yds Par 5 Index 16 - plays rite to left, good tee shot can bring green reachable in 2, if not simple 3 shotter.
Hole 18 - 341 yds Par 4 Index 6 - uphill hole all the way, 3 wood and 8 iron will get you there. Green is backed by clubhouse, with bunkers surrounding the green. View from green across Lough Ree is beautiful.

6313 YDS Yellow tees, Par 73.

Let us know how you get on, you''ll enjoy it, super course.

Cheers Tang1 for the course guide. I'll let you know how it goes.

Played here on Saturday. Had 33 points of 20 society handicap with two scratches, so was happy enough. The course was in great condition. I thought the course was quite forgiving. The last 6 holes make the course. Some great views. The 15th was straight into a strong wind and very daunting from the back tee.

So playing this at the weekend for our two round Knocklyon Open (see thread) and was wondering if anyone can let me know what I'm in for?

Will big hitters flourish or will short game rule the day?

    Any help is appreciated.

PS This might be a little premature but the guys down there in Glasson have been really good with organizing the comp with special mention to Gareth!

Put a course guide earlier in this thread lawman, should help you in some way. Beware the 13th green:eek::eek:. Course is lovely from the 13th on, these are the holes to your left as you drive in to the hotel. If the weather is promised good for the weekend the views across Lough Ree will be beautiful. Grogans Pub in Glasson village is good place for a pint.

All the PAR 3's are roughly the same club. All a hybrid to a 5I off whites depending on wind. Open enough course and the rough has been cut back so bit more forgiving for opening up the shoulders.
Off yellows, it would take 42 to win on a decent day.
Course in good nick now with the fairways as good as a lot of places greens.

Favourite hole is actually the eighth. Severe Dogleg which if you go over the corner is only a wedge but if you go out straight is a six iron in.

Other one to look out for is the fourteenth. The drive is a risk/ reward but take on the corner for the craic. If off yellows, it is handy enough to take thirty yards of corner on and make it a two shotter.

Brave to take on that corner, i have tried (and failed!!)

Agree with this sentiment. Really great course and loved every minute of it. Every hole has got something to offer. Recommended.

Glasson is a good course no doubt.
    Some beautiful views.
Probably only 3/4 weak holes imo.
Gets soft down by the lake, but thats to be expected.

Not sure I'd be staying there for the night though, unless you can crash a wedding or something.
Wander down to the local village maybe for a few pints of plain.
    Good food options too.

The greens are in decent shape at the moment. Not much run on the ball but fairways are fine. The rough is wetter with a couple of boggy spots, but the course is very playable. Playing off the yellows would make up for the lack of run. If you are staying in the hotel, you should head to the village for food because you've a great selection.

Best two for a group of lads would be:

Grogans - Traditional pub with food
The fatted calf - Award winning pub/restaurant

From April to October, there is a restaurant down on the lake that opens called the Killanure Chalets which is very different. T- Bone steaks served on abread board.
