I know that when I applied for the student grant before that one of the questions was if I had lived in Ireland for the previous three years. I was just wondering that if I did live abroad for a few months, then came back to continue my education, would I be ineligible for the grant because I'd lived abroad?

You have to have lived in Ireland for 3 of the last 5 years to be eligible

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

So that does that mean that if I lived abroad for a year but was living in Ireland for the four years previous to that then I'd still be eligible?

Yes but if you lived for 2 years 1 month abroad you'd be ineligible

Do the years spent abroad on erasmus count as a year living abroad?

Also, say I were to study abroad in Scotland for 3 or so years, does that effect my eligibility for the grant?

No - time spent abroad in full-time education is not counted when applying the residency clause.
