I wonder if people can help me out - whenever I am searching through my contacts, it brings up my gmail and Facebook contacts too, as well as my phone contacts. Is it possible to have only the phone contacts display?

Yep, when in Contacts, use the left button(options). Select Contacts to View. Select which ones you want to view.
