A 'Who Is The Worst Driver In The Netherlands?' contestant has run over the show's host.

The ironic incident occurred when filming for the final of the BNN TV programme, which attracted a record 1.2 million viewers, was taking place and a contestant known as Pim hit presenter Ruben Nicolai and a cameraman.

Nobody was seriously hurt as a result of the accident - which occurred when Pim took his eyes off the road and crashed into traffic cones - but Ruben had to spend the night in hospital.

He said: "'I've just a little pain in my shoulder and my foot. We all had the fright of our lives."

What exactly were they trying to teach him in the first place?

I seriously laughed so hard at that.

The driver is such a wimp! Closing his eyes and then covering his eyes with his hands while the car is still moving.. ! Incredible.

I think it might have been the air bag that caused him to close his eyes. I must look again.

/edit: yip you're right, eejit shut his eyes!

The whole set-up strikes me as dangerous & exploitative. Great for ratings, though, if that's what matters.

What did he see that made him turn around like that? A shoe sale?

I don't think the format is all that dangerous. But the fact that they were driving down a straight piece of closed private road with fields on either side and he managed to run over the host means that whoever was in charge of safety seriously fncked up by not recognising that the host was standing in exactly the wrong place.

Or to put it another way: Who ever decided that standing right behind an obstacle was a good idea, deserves to be fired.

I thought the driver was being a complete pussy holding his hands over his eyes, but to be fair you can see from the reverse angle that he only puts his hands on his head after the airbag goes off and smacks him. I'd say he had a bit of a headache after that.

Fired? I'd have thought promotions all round were more likely, myself.

He did. he closed his eyes for the whole crash, and then when the airbag went off, he covered them with his hands

As for what he looked at, I think he was looking back at his speed!

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

According to the driver, when he hit the block wall, he panicked and slammed on the accelerator

The idea behind the program is to find some terrible drivers (who all hold a valid current Dutch license, so must have passed their test at some stage) and then re-train them. The driver who improves the most in 8 weeks gets a free brand new car.

The whole setup looks fairly safe to me except for where the crew was standing.

I hope the back seat passanger is ok, she didn't have her seat belt on:mad: 4-7 seconds of clip.

The girl in the passenger seat told him to look around, must be part of the "test". Presenter was seriously lucky, you can see him flying through the air at 0:35 and from 0:40 the dent in the windscreen where he hit it. Girl in the back seat had no seatbelt on as well and gave the drivers headrest a good smack, good job she wasn't sitting in the middle.

If they tried to show that programme here the auditions would easily fill Croker, probably be more like the Pope coming to the Phoenix Park!

Nope, I remember Quentin Wilson had a similar show called "Britain's worst driver"

The test is they drive at a wall of boxes and the tell the driver when to brake. The second test is where they do the same again but try distract the driver and see if he can judge when it is safe to brake and stop.

The guy is clearly a bit of an idiot.
